Welcome to Android Central! Long-press the message, then tap the Copy icon at the top of the screen (the icon that looks like two pieces of paper on top of each other). I believe you can only copy a whole message, rather than highlighting only certain words of the message. Once you paste that message, you can then edit out the parts you don't want.

Not being able to copy as much or as little of a text that you want is one of many frustrating things when trying to use Google Messages. Maybe someday, Google will catch up with the 3rd party messaging apps on this and dozens of other useful (some would say, essential) features. We can always hope, anyway.🤞

Glad it worked! That icon is actually pretty standard for Copy, but I can see why it would be a bit confusing for those who are unfamiliar with it.

The trash can icon location is another thing you could send as feedback to Google (from within the Messages app's settings). I've seen several other instances where the Delete option is really close to other commonly used options -- it really ought to be reasonably separate.

Yes, I can see how that symbol could look like two overlayed, I am just used to the other message version, when you highlight the text, Copy and Paste pop up right there instead of a bunch of Smiley face choices !!
I total agree about Delete option, I have accidently done that so many times in other programs that I Added an UN-delete beside it... ;-)
