Copy/Paste?

Ok, I'm a Samsung newbie and need some help with how to copy/paste on a Samsung. I used to have a HTC Thunderbolt, and had no issues with copy/paste. On the Note 2 I find it almost impossible. Today I was trying copy some text in a gmail email and wanted to throw my phone at the wall. Tap and hold the screen would highlight one word but it was *impossible* to move the start and end tabs in any functional way. They would jump all over the place and I couldn't accurately grab start or end -- it would just do whatever it felt like.

I have no idea what I'm doing with the S-Pen, but following the instruction on the S-Pen help page didn't seem to work.

Someone please straighten me out... I know this awesome phone shouldn't be this hard to operate. Thanks.

All I can say is practice. I have no issues with it.
I just copied your post.

weird, I just tried it in both the stock browser and Chrome and it was in fact easy. Testing a few different emails in the Gmail app seems touch and go. Some it operates great, some (like the one I was trying earlier today) are terrible. I wonder what the issue is...

He wants to know how you Rezound doing it. Why can't you answer his question and be helpful/respectful of his problem.
I would but I don't have the phone yet.
We are a forum for helping people...so assist him. That would be the nice thing to do.

Excuse you! I told him that all I say is practice.
I can't hold his phone in his hand and move his fingers.
He also said he did it with ease in the browser, so obviously he CAN do it.

If you don't like what I said to him, I honestly don't give a damn.
I have helped many people on this site and others lady.

Back off!

I don't think she was replying to this thread. The OP has diagnosed an issue that I can concur with having come from the TBolt (may it rest in piece(s)) and I do believe the headache is gmail as many other apps the long press on screen pulls up copy anchor points. There is a leaning curve to this device and the best advice is...practice.

Thank you. It was a generalization. I wasn't being rude!

It sure comes across as rude to me.

My advice was to practice.
You basically told me I wasn't being helpful, that I was being disrespectful of his problem, and implied that there was some other way that I could assist him.
The poster you quoted also said the best advice was practice.

I had the exact same problem as Phantomog the one and only time I tried to copy a chunk of text out of an email in the stock email program. I would long press on a word to get the interface to show up, but no matter how I zoomed in or out, whether using my non-fat fingers or the s-pen, it was IMPOSSIBLE to grab the start and end points and drag them to where I wanted. Just touching one or the other and everything starts jumping around. Grab the end point and try to move it down to pick up more text and the next thing I knew the end point would have jumped to before where the start point was. It was a buggy mess and it took me a couple of minutes just to highlight and copy a paragraph of text.

Haven't bothered with it since, but it's not just a matter of practice. It's buggy and wonky in at least some instances and not a result of Photomog doing something wrong...

I'm going to try and see if I can recreate the problem without the time pressure of having to get an email out right away...

Phantomog, can you recreate this in the same text & app before & after a reboot?

Yep, just did. Its the stock Gmail app. Yesterday I received an email from Amazon with a $2 promotional MP3 credit. Just needed to copy and paste the code. Before, and after the reboot, the copy endpoints behave unpredictably making it impossible to select the correct text of the code.

So far this is the only app I've noticed the issue on (but I've only had the phone a few days).

Couple options.
1. Forward the Amazon message to another email address, then send it back to see if the gmail app still responds similarly.
2. Is this specifically with Amazon or also with other senders into your gmail acct?
3. I have noticed (which may also be a setting, dont use gmail that much) but some messages are html and require downloading the rest of the message after you get the initial message. Is this "Amazon" message fully downloaded?

1. Forwarded to my exchange email. Worked better in the stock exchange email program. Forwarded back to gmail -- same erratic behavior.
2. Also see it with other senders, have not figured out any pattern yet. I've tried other Amazon emails and have no issue.
3. It is fully downloaded so that is not the problem.

Looks like its just a bug in the stock gmail app. Odd that it only affects certain emails. For now, I can workaround by forwarding to the exchange email app.

I'm also having a very hard time selecting and copying text with and without s-pen. I'm familiar with how it SHOULD work, but in Chrome and Gmail the anchors behave erratically. Move one and the other refuses to stay in place. If I am lucky enough to select what I want, there is no option to Copy when I touch the selected text.
Update: I did manage to do it successfully using the stock Internet browser and it works as advertised. Anyone have any similar experiences in Chrome, Gmail or other apps.
Better yet, anyone have a diagnoses or prescription for this issue which is a huge PITA!!! I got my Note 2 so I could be more productive, after all!
