Corrupted SD Card after 8.0 Update

Just happened to me as wellon my Galaxy A8 2018.

I encourage every person who stumbles upon this forum and has been experiencing Samsung SD card problems to please add a quick comment to this forum topic. Why? Other potential Samsung buyers would use this information when making buying decisions, and secondly, this issue might actually reach the device support and development group at Samsung.

Yes, since the last Samsung update, my Samsung Galaxy S8+ SD had become unstable. I can see no pattern, all I know is that periodically my 64gb SD Card is no longer seen by my device.

I can use the same card on other devices without any problems, however, the same SD card is randomly either available and working on my S8-Plus, our the SD card of not seen by my S8-Plus.

Turing my S8-Plus does not fix the random SD card working or not working problem.

This unstable device recognition of my S8-Plus SD card has created a huge problem for me. I depend on the SD card daily as my device storage for all my immediate work files, photo, videos, etc.

I've not found a reliable fix for this problem, yet.

I just took my card out and reinserted it and it worked.

This began happening just a few weeks after my 128GB SanDisk warranty was over. I pulled the card and put it in the SD adapter for my desktop and all files were fine. I pulled copies as backup. Now whenever a folder goes missing I just copy back from my desktop.

Today though, the MTP is painfully slow... 3 hours for 125 photos? This is my first time playing with transfers since the most recent update from Samsung.

Just chiming in for my 2 cents.
I have a Samsung Tab S 10.1"
My SD card is a generic 32gb card.
After last update my SD card became unusable and the games installed there also corrupt.
This may seem prejudice or stereotypical of me but,
Every damn Korean product I've ever purchased in the last 20+ years has been nothing but crapola by the 100th degree!
It never works right, breaks right after warranty and never gets support.
Samsung, in my personal opinion as a 49 American Veteran is ( SUCK IT UP BUTTERCUP, SAMSUNG IS CRAP! DEAL WITH YOUR PURCHASE )

My Moto G5 has just done this to me too. Every update over the last 12 months has caused me more frustration. I think I might have to root it and install a ROM.

Android 8, galaxy s9 64g card corrupted. Same problem.

Card doesn't show unless go into storage settings, where it offers to wipe it for me. So helpful.

Galaxy S9+ android 8.0 This phone is less than 2 weeks old and it has corrupted 2 microsd cards, generic 400gb and a Samsung 256gb. I now have a Sandisk 400gb card, I put over 100gb of music on it until I restart it and then 1/2 the music is gone away. The folders are still there but all the songs in the folders took a hike. This happened with both the brand new 400gb cards I have. WTF Samsung!!
I still haven't heard from Samsung as to why but AT&T had me jump through hoops. Reformat card, copy files using PC insert card back into phone. Did that over and over several times while on the phone with AT&T support. (Different phone not the s9)
Just want people to beware, maybe try a different brand of phone.

Had similar problems to some of the other posters with my S8 (Android version 9).
I bought a new 64Gb SD card to replace the 32Gb I already had in it, and that was working fine. When I put the new 64Gb card in I got a notification that there was an issue with the card. Clicked on it and it said it should be formatted. Fine, I did that. It didn't fix the problem apparently. Hmmm... but the 32Gb was working, wasn't it? Put the 32Gb back and it was OK. Put the 64Gb in a card reader and into PC and it was fine.
So what was the difference between the 32Gb and 64Gb cards? Stuck them into my Ubuntu system and had a closer look. The 32Gb card was formatted with a FAT32 file system, the 64Gb card was formatted with exFAT. So I reformatted it with FAT32 and tried it in the phone again. Voila! it worked.
So the S8 formatted the card with a file system it then didn't recognize. Nice one Samsung, I think you are a contender for the Muppet of the year award!

SD card-PC exchanges are monitored by WE, and even more by phone app

When I plugged my s8 into my computer, it didn't register the SD card at all

My frequent backups of my microSD card is done by taking it out of the phone (Note II n7100, Note 3, Note 4) and inserting into the PC integrated card reader. This way the transfers from PC to SD or reverse is done and controlled by WE (Windows Explorer), with all its qualities and flaws, no more.

When connecting the phone to the PC, the same information exchanges between the PC and the SD card are under the same control from WE, aggravated by an additional layer of control, usually contained in an application from the phone manufacturer (Samsung in my case). That additional control apparently brings no advantage, yet a couple drawbacks, like files changed (e.g. videos get pixelized) or absent.

So I suggest you only connect the phone to the PC after removing any memory card from the phone: exchanges between card and PC are best done through memory card adapter on the PC.

And a 3rd layer - the phone's USB. Plugging the card into a PC usually results in faster file transfers.
