Could someone please explain to me why alarm volume is so low?

Alright, for some reason, alarm volume (at max) is significantly lower than ringtone volume (also at max).

I'm playing the exact same tune, when I select it as a ringtone, it blows my ears away. When I select it as an alarm it's just... softer... a lot softer. Throwing all of the sound through the bottom speaker but nothing at all through the top speaker. And this is the case with any alarm tune I play. Seems like a problem to me.

I definitely would like my alarm to be louder so... any suggestion?

The alarms starts with low volume but it increases if you don't dismiss it. You can configure this in the alarms tab, upper right corner: 3 dots, configuration.
Options are volume, increases, etc.

Yes, and I see that in the settings myself. But it's the same whether that checkbox is ticked or not. The problem I see here is, that for some reason, alarm only sounds only come out through the bottom speaker and nothing comes out on the top speaker at all. Give it a shot yourself and let me know how it goes.

You are right, it seems to Sound only in the bottom speaker, but it sounds pretty loud if you let it (tested with polichrome ringtone) . It also sounds loud from the beginning if you uncheck that option.

Notice that there is a separate alarm volume in the same menu, maybe you have that one too low.

It's not loud enough imo. The top speaker makes a huge difference in volume. Unchecking "that" option also makes no difference to me. Alarm volume is at max. There's nothing you've said I haven't tried.

What I'm looking for is a way to tweak the phone somehow to make the alarm volume use both speakers like everything else.

Let HTC know. They are pretty attentive to glitches but won't know unless we tell them.

Maybe download and use a different alarm app from the Playstore and see if there's a difference.
I haven't tried using a 3rd party app because I want to avoid that entirely. I don't want to have extra apps for very basic things like this that should simply work properly.

I plan to have a little chat with their support tomorrow (still weekend in the western side of the world). I would call them but I feel like their call centre in Colombia is a bit incompetent. Called them several times for several things. Not the brightest experience.

That's a bummer. I've called their tech support in the states twice for other devices and their techs were brilliant. Absolute geeks, but I wouldn't want it any other way when speaking to tech support.

Really... mind if I ask which number you dial? Every single time I've called, I end up at some call centre in Colombia. I even kindly asked if they had a call centre within the US, and they said no, only Colombia and I think Philippines as well.

Sorry, I don't know which number it was, the last time I spoke to them was about 1 year ago. I probably just called the standard number and asked for tech support.

Alright, I both called and used the web support. Talked to 3 different representatives. Needless to say, these clowns didn't help one bit. Instead they tried to convince me that this is a "feature" of the phone.

I was like, "you're trying to tell me that lowering the alarm volume by using only one speaker is a feature? You do realize this defeats the whole purpose of what an alarm is supposed to do, right? That being to be loud and wake people up."

I swear if it wasnt for the fact that I dislike Apple even more, and totally hate Touch Wiz, I would've switched camps. There's always LG, but the G5 is not impressive to me in the least...
