Couple of TWRP questions

Every time I play around with anything needing recovery, I always wonder about a few of the options I see there and I'm finally getting around to asking lol

What's the difference between wiping the "Internal Storage" and using the "Format Data" option? And what would be a good reason to do one or the other?
Also, for what reason would you do a system wipe vs just factory reset?

Last question is about reverting to an older version. I've been using TWRP v2.4.1 and might need to go back to v2.3.1.
Will the older version have any problems with nandroids originally created using the newer version?

Formatting data will wipe everything on your data partition. So it's like wiping data, system and storage all at once. Wiping internal storage only wipes the phone storage.

Twrp is on 2.4.2 you might want to update it.

Seems like the place to ask...

My internal storage is a hot mess ('0' folders all over the damn place) and I want to basically get everything back in order...

I'm thinking I'd like to wipe my internal - I've backed up any pictures, etc...that I want to keep to some place off the phone. What will happen when I wipe internal?

Can I...
Wipe
Factory Reset
Cache
Davlic
System
Internal

Flash
CM 10.1 (M2 Build)
GAPPS

Reboot?

Then just copy back my backups/files to internal and go off and running?

Basically, what happens when I wipe internal? I've looked around but can't seem to find an answer. Thanks!

When you plug your phone into your computer, you see two folders, one is "phone" and the other is "card". When you wipe internal, it removes everything from the "phone", which is your internal sdcard. But, you should be warned, when you install your cm10.1, you'll just be adding that "0" folder again.

I think I got that... I guess my question is, can I wipe internal and the flash 10.1 again, then reboot without trouble?

I mean, if I wipe internal aren't I also wiping TWRP? Won't bad things happen?

Thanks!

Your recovery will still be there, just make sure your ROM and GAPPS are on your external sd card or it will be erased. I always keep a few ROMs on my sd card at all times in case something bad happens. Wipe cache and dalvick after flashing the ROM and after flashing GAPPS. Reboot and you are good.

What if all I have for my internal storage folder is one of the "0" folders I got from flashing a rom. How do I get my normal sdcard folder back. Will wiping the internal storage get it back? (I'm running my stock rom nothing custom)

Yes, wiping the internal will get your internal sdcard back to normal. You will loose everything in internal, so try to back up (copy to your computer) everything you don't want to loose.

What's new in 2.4.4.0:

Added another libtar hardlink workaround to fix restore of some backups (usually related to Ubuntu Touch)
More fixes for the file selector
Switched from using busybox md5sum to a direct C function call
Fixed capturing the exit status of tar based backups/restore - TWRP will display that there was an error if there was one again
Update exFAT to latest commits
Added a build flag to disable using the ioctl for screen blanking
