Bought 2 S7's on launch day (one for my wife). Never had a problem with BT on either of them.
Last week I noticed that Security Policy updates were failing on my S7. I picked up my wifes S7, and manually tried to update her Security Policy--it too failed. Tried it later and it worked. Tried to update mine more than 20 times over the course of a day. Many phone calls later to support, with no resolution, I did what I hate--a Factory Reset. (Prior to resetting, I installed Smart Switch on my PC and made a backup of my phone). I used Smart Switch to restore. Problem solved for Security Policy Updates, but when I got in my Camry, the BT issue began.
Description of this new, weird BT problem: I can pair the phone w/o issue. Upon starting the car, I get a BT connection w/o incident, but here is where it gets weird. After from 15 seconds, to usually no more than 2 minutes, the BT connection is lost and the car will not connect back to my phone or any other BT device (because the BT is now "off" on the car and will no re-enable) until I turned the car off. That means if I'm driving, I have to pull off of the road, park, and shut the car off momentarily. totally not cool.
So, I did another factory reset but set up the phone as a new user. At first BT worked fine, so I installed a bunch of apps. BT still worked fine. Later that evening I tried to get the phone completely set up with all my apps and all passwords and settings reestablished. I got a solid BT connection to the car for at least 8 minutes, so I figured all was well.
The next morning, I set out on a trip. Turned on Pandora, and within 3 blocks, I lost Pandora and there was the message on the infotainment screen about a loss of BT. Had to pull off the street and connect up my wife's phone. BT worked fine for the day. The next day I hooked up my old Note 2 so I could listen to my stations. Again, BT worked fine...for days! (Didnt even try to hook up my S7 for the remainder of the 6 day trip)
I have spoken with Verizon, Samsung, and Toyota. No one has a clue why the phone's BT isn't playing nice anymore, with my car.
BT works fine between my S7 and my Samsung smart watch, even when it fails in the car.
Tonight, I did a THIRD factory reset, sat in the car for more than 15 minutes and it's working OK. I have NOT installed all apps, but during troubleshooting before I went on vacation, we tried Safe Mode. No joy. (I'm presuming that since Safe Mode didn't help, it's not a "app" issue)
The only other weirdness about the phone, was that after the second FR, Concert Hall echo kept enabling itself. I would go to settings and turn it off, but it would come right back on. It's like the phone was possessed. I rebooted it to clear up that issue.
So, to recap, it all started because of issues with Security Policy updates, which caused me to do the first FR since I've owned the phone.
I don't want to get a replacement phone (Verizon said they would do that if I called them back) if there is any way this can get fixed. I would expect that a replacement phone is a refurb (according to what they already told me about the replacement program for in-warranty issues) which could have it's own issues. The problem is so specific, that I wouldn't feel confident to have Samsung try to fix my phone. I've googled til my fingers bled and haven't found exactly the same BT issue.
All of the obvious things have been tried repeatedly:clear BT cache and data, clear system cache, reset all connections, unpair, Safe Mode.
I'm wondering if maybe there is a fault in the system memory so that right after a factory reset it, the problem seems fixed, but then a while later it crops up again. If it was hardware, I'd expect the BT problem to not be fixed by a FR.
Any ideas?
