Crazy BT issue that started after factory reset.

Bought 2 S7's on launch day (one for my wife). Never had a problem with BT on either of them.

Last week I noticed that Security Policy updates were failing on my S7. I picked up my wifes S7, and manually tried to update her Security Policy--it too failed. Tried it later and it worked. Tried to update mine more than 20 times over the course of a day. Many phone calls later to support, with no resolution, I did what I hate--a Factory Reset. (Prior to resetting, I installed Smart Switch on my PC and made a backup of my phone). I used Smart Switch to restore. Problem solved for Security Policy Updates, but when I got in my Camry, the BT issue began.

Description of this new, weird BT problem: I can pair the phone w/o issue. Upon starting the car, I get a BT connection w/o incident, but here is where it gets weird. After from 15 seconds, to usually no more than 2 minutes, the BT connection is lost and the car will not connect back to my phone or any other BT device (because the BT is now "off" on the car and will no re-enable) until I turned the car off. That means if I'm driving, I have to pull off of the road, park, and shut the car off momentarily. totally not cool.

So, I did another factory reset but set up the phone as a new user. At first BT worked fine, so I installed a bunch of apps. BT still worked fine. Later that evening I tried to get the phone completely set up with all my apps and all passwords and settings reestablished. I got a solid BT connection to the car for at least 8 minutes, so I figured all was well.

The next morning, I set out on a trip. Turned on Pandora, and within 3 blocks, I lost Pandora and there was the message on the infotainment screen about a loss of BT. Had to pull off the street and connect up my wife's phone. BT worked fine for the day. The next day I hooked up my old Note 2 so I could listen to my stations. Again, BT worked fine...for days! (Didnt even try to hook up my S7 for the remainder of the 6 day trip)

I have spoken with Verizon, Samsung, and Toyota. No one has a clue why the phone's BT isn't playing nice anymore, with my car.

BT works fine between my S7 and my Samsung smart watch, even when it fails in the car.

Tonight, I did a THIRD factory reset, sat in the car for more than 15 minutes and it's working OK. I have NOT installed all apps, but during troubleshooting before I went on vacation, we tried Safe Mode. No joy. (I'm presuming that since Safe Mode didn't help, it's not a "app" issue)

The only other weirdness about the phone, was that after the second FR, Concert Hall echo kept enabling itself. I would go to settings and turn it off, but it would come right back on. It's like the phone was possessed. I rebooted it to clear up that issue.

So, to recap, it all started because of issues with Security Policy updates, which caused me to do the first FR since I've owned the phone.

I don't want to get a replacement phone (Verizon said they would do that if I called them back) if there is any way this can get fixed. I would expect that a replacement phone is a refurb (according to what they already told me about the replacement program for in-warranty issues) which could have it's own issues. The problem is so specific, that I wouldn't feel confident to have Samsung try to fix my phone. I've googled til my fingers bled and haven't found exactly the same BT issue.

All of the obvious things have been tried repeatedly:clear BT cache and data, clear system cache, reset all connections, unpair, Safe Mode.

I'm wondering if maybe there is a fault in the system memory so that right after a factory reset it, the problem seems fixed, but then a while later it crops up again. If it was hardware, I'd expect the BT problem to not be fixed by a FR.

Any ideas?

Are you sure the problem isn't the vehicle's radio? Especially since you say your smart watch stays connected without any problems. Is your vehicle still under bumper to bumper warranty?

It works with 2 other phones, and it ALWAYS works after I do a FR. It just doesn't seem to want to work when every single app is reinstalled and all updates including Security Policy is updates, Samsung Pay is running...It's like it no longer likes the phone to have everything that I've been running without issues for months, ever since the FIRST Factory Reset. I tried it today and it's OK, but I did NOT reinstall everything yet. Having said that, keep in mind that when it acted up, running it in Safe Mode didn't help. Toyota said that they have yet to release an update to Entune on the car since last year, and that it might include additional BT "fixes" in the not too-distant future (vague).

I have an extended warranty (the car is 4 years old). I didn't call the dealer. Weird problems like mine likely would be about impossible for Toyota to take responsibility for, since it works with other phones and worked with mine for many months. I'm quite sure they will dump this problem right back on Samsung.

Why does your watch stay connected though? Do you have any other bluetooth devices you can test this problem out on?

it played with the Jambox for over an hour. I've tested the phone today, several times, with the car and so far so good, BUT I haven't yet got all apps installed yet. I just got Samsung Pay installed and it's still working (BT to car). SOMETHING has to be hosing the BT connection but it's going to take a lot of painstaking work for me to find at what point it goes bad. I'm now backing up to Smart Switch after each successful test of the BT connection, as I add items to the phone, in small batches and retest BT connectivity in the car.

EDIT: still works after enabling and updating to the latest Security Policy and Nova Launcher is now installed.

I've been putting apps back on in batches, and listing them on a s/s so that if the BT fails again, I'll have some idea if it is one of a group of apps that is causing it. So far, I've not had a BT issue and I've pretty much got every app back on the phone! I need to figure out if there are a few that I missed, but even so, I've installed all the ones I really want. I'll update this thread with a final outcome. I have been making backups to Smart Switch, also.

BT is still working in the car, BUT (and I will make a new thread to try to get help), this morning the phone lost most of it's defaults such as Samsung Pay, AOD, it turned ON all of the "click" sounds in "Sounds & Vibration", forgot that Messenger is the default SMS app, etc.

Anyone else have a similar issue? Can't find a similar complaint when Googling "phone loses settings"

Good god...what a terrible experience. One problem after another. Maybe it IS hardware related? Very odd though...

tell me! I've got more than 24 hours of my time involved in all this nonsense. First it's the failure to update Samsung Security Policy, then the FR results in BT issues, then another FR didn't fix the BT issue (and at that point, I'm 13 hours into the issues). The next FR SEEMS to have BT working, but all of the phone settings reverted to defaults. I spent tons of time adding apps back on, in batches, to see if any of them would weirdly cause BT to the car to fail (doesn't even make sense, but hey). As I type this, knock on wood, I THINK that most of this is behind me. But the time it's taken is just ridiculous. I did it to avoid getting a refurb phone (and that decision would have come at around 13 hours) and knowing how long it takes to set up everything on a replacement phone.
