New Galaxy user, got a GS5 today on Verizon.

I had a Droid 4 before, a Nexus one before that, and a G1 before that.

All those phone were very easy to create a shortcut... long press the homescreen or wherever and follow the prompts.
I cannot figure out how to do this on the GS5. All I want to do is add a direct dial shortcut to the homescreen. A couple power/gps/whatever toggles would be cool to.
Am I missing something? Do I really need to run a different launcher to get these very basic functions?

Thanks in advance, any advice is appreciated!

Go into the "People" app and when in the contact you want on the home screen goto the 3 dot menu and there should be a add to home screen option. It is not a direct dial widget but u can hit dial from the popup.
