Creating an independent link to a Google photo

Previously to create an independent link to share a Google photo I'd get an https://lh3.googleusercontent...... link but now I get a https://photos.app.goo......... link instead. The long press does not work on this new link which means I cannot open in a new tab to make it available. What am I doing wrong? I'm using a Samsung tablet.
