Curious - Mate 10 Pro and Notifications

I've heard a few complaints about the way in which The Huawei phones handle notifications, and i'm curious to get more details into the actual problem.

Been very tempted by the mate 10 and mate 10 pro so just want to fully understand the issue with notifications on these devices?

Hi.
I've only had my mate 10 Pro for 2 weeks now and I'm still trying to work out the whole notification issue!
My biggest concern was that I wasn't getting reminders through from a task app that I use a lot. I had to switch to a different task app and make some app permission changes and now these come through.
I seem to get most notifications through at the moment, I'm not sure if that had anything to do with a recent software update or not, so overall I'm happy. To be honest though I couldn't guarantee you that I'm getting all notifications through, and to be honest it doesn't bother me that much for how I use my phone.
I'm sure the other guys who've had there phones longer will be able to give you a better answer than me!
Overall though this is a great phone and for the price I got it for I'm very happy with it.
I'm still trying out the camera and have some small concerns about low light pictures but other than that it's quick, lag free, has an amazing battery, has a great screen (albeit only fhd), camera overall seems very good so far and charges quickly.
It's slippery though so you'll need a case!

Thanks for the response.
If what you are saying about notifications is true its a little worrying and given the way I use phones it would be a deal breaker for me.
Have to wonder why Huawei would even want to change the way notifications work.

Shame a such as other than that it appears to be pretty much the perfect the device

It's to do with Huawei's battery optimisation, it's aggressive which means you need to pay with the optimisation settings to ensure you get notifications through ok.
I've seen others on this forum say after a bit of time they've managed to change the correct settings to ensure they get notifications through ok.
Hopefully one of those guys can reply to your thread and let you know (and me) how to do that!

Notifications are way too important to me to miss. Even from the mundane apps I like to still be updated on them so if I couldn't have that I'd have ditched my Mate 10 Pro promptly. Huawei are very aggressive with them and battery optimisations so have many background tasks and Notifications turned off or at least managed by the software by default so knowing that your first port of call is going into those settings and enabling them. When I set mine up the first thing I did was enable all notifications on Lockscreen, all apps to be ignored by battery optimisation and all apps to run in the background. This way you get all your notifications and if anything is eating the battery in the background you'll soon get a prompt telling you an app is consuming a lot of power and you can deal with them one by one til you get a good balance to suit your own needs.

I think the only annoyance I have with the Mate 10 Pro notifications is being unable to quick reply from the lockscreen. As it is now you have to double tap the notification to open the app and do it from there. Quick reply still works fine and normally when the phone is in use just not on the lockscreen. I'm positive it worked fine on my P10 I had last year so maybe just a software bug that will be addressed in an update?

Turn off power intensive prompt in your notifications apps and emails to get yours thru and bypass the aggressive battery management.

On XDA someone suggested to open the app having the notification problems and then when you tap on the recent apps icon you can click the locking icon for the app in the tabbed list. THis might help also by preventing EMUI from shutting down the application. YMMV
