I haven't seen any updated lists of voice commands that work, especially with different apps like Spotify, etc.

Other than asking for weather, sending texts and "navigate to _____", I haven't had much else work.

Would love to hear what works for the rest of you.

I have only seen a few examples for other apps, like this:
  • "Play my 'Dance!' playlist on Spotify"
  • "Play Call Me Maybe on Amazon Music"
  • "Play house music on Pandora"
  • "Play Harry Potter on Audible"
  • "Play Adele Radio on iHeartRadio"
  • "Play Planet Money on NPR One"

If you've got some apps connected to Google Now (Wink, Nest, etc), you can use those same commands through AA. I have a ton of Wink-connected devices (lights, thermostats, sensors, etc) and use it to shut off my lights when I leave the house or turn on certain lights when I get home.

Things like "Ok, Google - Activate away mode on Wink" work.

You can also add stops along a route now by repeating the "Navigate to..." command with the place you'd like to stop at.

If you use apps like Hangouts, you can obviously send messages through that as opposed to SMS by saying "Send a <app> message".

The last to you probably knew, but I'm just brainstorming :)

wait a minute, you are looking for documentation for Android Auto? You might as well be looking for the Holy Grail.

I asked TuneIn Radio for their voice commands and got no reply. But I have found I can say "Play 'name of radio station' " and it usually works. Although there is one i like with call letters KUOM and whenever i say that, Google can't understand the U as a letter and mashes it together and understands it like "kwam" or something. But it does understands frequencies like "Play 100.7" usually works.

Does "navigate to [NAME]" work with you guys?

Often I don't know the address where I want to go but I have saved it in the contact information of that person I want to visit. However for me this does not work. I need to say the exact address for navigation.

I have used, for example "Find [restaurant]" and it will show me a search result that I can then touch to start navigation. I'm pretty sure I have used "Navigate to [restaurant]" as well.

You have to use "Navigate to [Name's] place"

Also, any question that provides a boxed Google answer (e.g. "What is the Capital of Tatooine?") will provide that boxed response.

No need to repeat "Navigate to..." necessarily. I have been known to simply say "McDonalds" and AA does a search and lists the McDonalds nearby. Simply tap the one you want. Now maybe you need "Navigate to <person>'s place" - I have to try that one. I used to say "Navigate to Home" to get directions back home but I'm more fond of saying "Let's go Home".

Similarly, with my Echo (Alexa) at home I don't bother saying "Alexa, what's my flash briefing" or "Alexa, what's the news". I now say "Alexa, news!" and "Alexa, weather". You learn which keywords the AI is needing to understand you and which are essentially fluff.

The playlist command doesn't seem to work for Spotify. It does for Amazon echo, but Spotify in Android Auto doesn't understand the command.

Unfortunately, the "Navigate to Name's place" command doesn't work under Android Auto. It works fine when not connected to Android Auto. I've seen this kind of inconsistent deployment of commands in the past. It's very frustrating.

Re: Insp_Gadget

I will have to try these the next time I have AA running - this list was provided on a news item around Google Maps:

"Mute/Unmute voice guidance."
"Show/hide traffic."
"Show/hide satellite."
"Navigate to [place]"
"Show route overview." or "Show alternate routes."
"What road is this?"
"What’s my next turn?"
"What's my ETA?"
"How's traffic ahead?" or "How's traffic to home?"
"Avoid/enable tolls."
"Avoid/enable highways."
"Avoid/enable ferries."
"Exit navigation."
"Call Mom."
"Find [place]"
"Send a text to [contact]"
"What's the weather like?"
"Play [music]"
"What's the closest hotel?"
"When's my next meeting?"

What am I doing today (or tomorrow)? lists your calendar items.
extended weather ...gives several days

Just tried some of these. Many don't work. Two of my frustrations... While I can say "Where is my next appointment" and AA will tell me what it is and where it is I cannot say "Navigate to my next appointment"! Argh!

And then there's the Play [Music] thingy. I often listen to podcasts with BeyondPod or audio books with Audible. Saying "Play Beyondpod" starts Beyondpod but fails to hit the play button! Play Audible switched to Audible and hit the play button.

Still not ready for prime time I guess.

You would think it would be easy to navigate to addresses in your contacts but I tried several different ways to get to a friends house through voice commands and none of them worked.

This does work for me. If I say "navigate to Bill Walls" (and his address is in his contact info), it works.

The current AA version Needs the command formatted as "navigate to Bob Smiths home" replacing home with work or title of and registered address.

AA voice commands are so baffeling that if I have a music app on screen and say "play Journey" it replies that it doesn't know how to help with "play Journey" it can play almost any other artist using that standard command... Journey though.... I have to hit the Aa voice command button and say "Journey" and nothing else, doesn't matter if a music app, the dialer, or maps is on screen.. it will reply "Ok, playing Journey."

Bizzare..

The other band that it actually cannot handle in any way is Bad Company. With that one it starts playing off the wall crud that isn't even remotely similar.
