I've been wanting to load a custom animation on my DX with sound... any of them floating around? I like the one with the rotten apple that explodes, then the DROID comes up with the sound followed by an animation.

Does anyone have that one or one similar? And how do I install it?

Well to install a custom boot animation download the one you want then find super manager in the market and download it.

Once you have super manager open it up go to the settings and enable root. The find the new boot animation cut it, the press the "back up level folder" until you are in the main system directory, once the open the data folder, then open the local folder and paste the file and reboot.

This will change the animation, but I'm not sure about sound. There are other guides that suggest a different file manager but this one is free and works just fine. I have the r2d2 animation on my Droid X.

Cool thanks... I found and installed the "Red Rage" animation, super cool.

Next question... I saw this somewhere but I can't find it for the life of me. I wanted to replace the Motorola "M" boot logo and there was a thread somewhere with premade ones. I'd like to have one the just says "DROID" in the same format as the standard DX boot animation.

Or if someone can point me in the right direction to a thread that has premade ones, that would be great as well!

You could also check out 'Droid Boot Logo Changer' in the Market. Lots of cool logos in there that you can use.

Is there a easier way to do this on the X? I read the instructions from droidpirate.com and it says to use a file explorer to delete the original bootanimation then copy and paste the new one where the old one was. I can't get the "move" or "copy/paste" to work in astro and it won't delete the original either. Every time I try to remove it I get "error deleting file." I'm getting frustrated.

You don't have to delete the original. Find the animation you want, and if it hasn't been changed already rename it to bootanimation(.zip). There are two locations you can put it, but I always put it in the main/data/local folder in the explorer. Don't unzip it, just let it be. Then reboot and make sure it works. Use root explorer or ES file explorer, and make sure that your R/O permissions are set to R/W, move it into the folder, then switch back to R/O.

Ok I installed ES. First how do you change between R/O and R/W? Second, I didn't have a data/local folder. I tried to create one and just move it there but it didn't work. Am I supposed to have the data/local folder already?

Dumb question but you ARE rooted right? I just tried to look and for some reason ES won't let me gain root access, the only way I've been successful is with Root Explorer, which is the best app I've purchased for my phone. If you don't have Root Explorer, get it trust me. It's a must for anyone that's rooted.

Well I was rooted. I was trying to do this last night. Decided to take a break after trying for a while. Decided to try and get the new gingerbread keyboard from rom manager and it bricked my phone. Couldn't get past the motorola splash logo. SBF flashed and lost root. Gonna be a day or two before I take the time to try again.

P.S. Rom Manager has bricked my phone the last 3 times I've tried flashing ROMS. What the F*#% is up with that?! First time I flashed FlyX it worked perfectly. Decided I didn't like it and SBF flashed back to 2.2 when the full SBF came out and since then ROM manager Eff's my phone every time.

With the X the only thing I use Rom manager for is downloading roms, I install them in the recovery after I bootstrap, I haven't had a single problem that way.
