I have made the switch from blackberry to android. I now have a D2G. I am having a hard time setting up the profiles. I was used to on BB having the ability to set the phone to ring, the email to vibrate one way, as well as the sms to vibrate another way. Is there a way to do this on the D2G, or do I need to download am app to allow me to do that? I need to be able to have my texts coming in under vibrate at all times, but need the phone to ring. I also had certain contacts setup to ring different ringtones as well as not ring at all. Please help.
Thank You
Hey JPL38 -- I also made the switch form BB to Android. Here's my 2 cents:
1) I have two apps that handle the switch from vibrate to ring and back for me
-- I use an app called Quiet Time to handle ad-hoc meetings etc which aren't scheduled. So if I know I'm headed into a 90 min meeting (or movie!), I'll put the phone on vibrate for 90 mins via Quiet Time and after 90 mins, it will automatically put it back to the default ringtone
-- For scheduled times such as overnight, church Sunday morning, etc., I use Silence Scheduler which you can program to put on vibrate, for example, Su-Th from 9 to 6 and Fr-Sa from 11 to 8 etc. You can do as many schedules as needed. So if you know every Thursday, you have a staff meeting from 9 to 11, you could schedule that here.
2) In terms of customizing texts versus phone versus email, it took me quite a while to figure out that what you set in the Settings for notification sounds for example is just the default. You can then go to text messsages, GMail, etc. and set different sounds in those specific apps which will override the default. So if you wanted texts to always be vibrate, you'd go in and set that in the text message app. Now, if you do so, you'll need to make sure when you put the phone on silent, you set it to vibrate not silent or you will never hear/feel squat.
Likewise for customizing a user's ringtone, you simply go into that contact and set the custom ringtone there which overrides the default ringtone.
3) The first paid app I got (not exactly a major investment) when I cam off the BB was an app called Call Informer which if the caller is in my contacts list, flashes up their company and title on the incoming call screen. I use my phone for a lot of work calls, and it helps to get that info when they call. If course, it doesn't provide any value if they're not in your contacts.
Welcome to the DROID world.
