I know it was mentioned during receiving the 2.1 update , but like to bring it up once again , you can go in each individual message 3 dots upper right corner tap and select customize wallpaper to color you want or from gallery

This is cool. They are slowly but surely making the messages app better. Now if they'd give us the options to put different notification icons per contact I'd be happy to go back to messages. Textra has me spoiled and I prefer different icons to different ringtones per contact. Lol
