Cut & Paste - I'm almost ready to go back to my BB

Ok guys... My main reason for having a smartphone is email and messaging... Between my work and side projects I get about 100+ emails a day, and about the same txt msgs.

why can I not CUT AND PASTE when I want to???

I can do it on my BB, and almost anywhere on my iPhone...

Why can I not select txt on an email???????

If you are trying to copy a URL, first load that URL in your browser, then long-press the address bar and select 'Copy page url'.

If you want to copy text from a web page, then hit Menu > More > Select text (or Menu+E on the hard keyboard), then drag your finger to highlight the text. When you pick up your finger, the text will be copied to the clipboard automatically.

To cut, copy, or paste stuff into a text entry box, just long-press the box and select the item corresponding to what you want to do.

There are also keyboard shortcuts for a lot of copy/paste tasks. Eg, you can use shift-Dpad to select text, Menu-X to cut, Menu-V to paste, etc.

Yeah, that works nice when you have a keyboard (droid) try it with no keys... (XT701)...

Also try this scenario:

a friend txt's you and asks for another phone #...

BB - Cut number form contacts, paste in reply txt.

Android - find contact, call, but select edit before dialing, then click copy, then go back.

ugh.

If you are, Android copies and pastes flawlessly.

Just select the text, long press, and choose one of the options. Easy

Not sure what device you are using, but there are LOTS of times C&P does not work.

Also I have noticed:

1. On both phones with 2.1 (Update 1) I have in my house, you have to fully open a photo MMS to save it, you can't do it from the thread.

2. If someone on an iPhone sends you multiple MMS pics in one message, it comes as a slide show (iPhones fault, not droid) but you can't save it, you can't forward it, NOTHING.

3. If you get a MMS, you can't forward it at all, not as an email or another MMS without saving the file and creating a new msg.

4. Still no solution to copy phone numbers from phone book.

I don't understand your question -we're on an Android forum, no?

Try this:

If you want to copy a text from an email you received (Gmail client) on Android 2.1, how do you do it? Because there are no options to copy text from an email message.

From the text message client, it appears you do have an option to select text but, at least in my case (HTC EVO), doing a long press on a message lets "Forward" the message (no other options to select/cut/paste), after selecting Forward, you can then select select the text, but get this, it only selects from the beginning of the message! In other words, you can only begin the selection at the beginning of the message -God forbid the text you want is at the end of the message!
Due to that limitation, you have to copy the entire message and manually delete the parts you don't want.

Let me know if I'm doing anything wrong, but I've tried this many times and I'm still baffled at how limiting Android is -and I'm coming from webOS...

the way I get around the cut/paste in gmail is by setting up the HTC client for imap and set he refresh to manual. if I get one I need to cut/paste from I just open the HTC email and do the snipping there. that way I get the benefit of push from gmail. Not ideal but it is a work around. probably works with other email clients besides the HTC one.

Those are seriously weak work arounds... This might be the only flaw Androids have. When the iPhone didn't have it , you lived with it, with us... We have to keep trying new workarounds.

Great point. Lets remember that the iPhone didn't get copy and paste until the 3GS launched. Hopefully a much better implementation is coming soon.

FroYo has copy and paste in the email. It's not
as good as the iPhone, but it works well.

That was one of my biggest gripes as well as I
c&p a lot in email.

Well, it's good to know that Froyo will have some kind of functionality. This is probably my only gripe about Android since switching from an iPhone. The good thing is that this is a software issue and software issues can be easily fixed.

From the gmail client (I am on droid) hit the menu key, hit "more options" choose "select text." and it copies to clipboard.

Edit, I should note I'm using Froyo, so that might by why this happens
