Right now I only get 2 hours on screen time with cyanogen mod and just keep on hearing how great matrix kernel is, is this true?

Battery life is affected by a number of things, for example: kernel and kernel settings, signal strength throughout the day, apps installed, apps being used, screen brightness level, the ROM you are running (to a small extent), active/disabled sensors, and the list goes on. As you can probably guess, the respected kernel developers (of which I would say the CM team has a lot of experience) do not design their kernels to give poor battery life, in fact usually they work hard on improving it. More often than not, a user who's battery life is poor is due to one or a combination of the other factors.

This is not to say that trying a new kernel won't help you, it might. But it's important to consider the other factors and whether there are other options you could try out to improve it.

Other things to consider... Any new ROM or kernel flash means you need to wait a few days for the battery to calibrate properly before you can judge the batt the life (it will do this on its own through normal usage).

And if you want to try a new kernel you don't need to stress it too much.. Just flash it. You can swap kernels out easily if you change your mind later.

Yeah after giving Cyanogenmod some more time I see a BIG increase in on screen time I think the team behind cyanogen have done a wonderful job! Although the inner geek in me still wants to flash the matrix kernel lol

Give it a try. As 2def said, flashing a kernel is quick and easy. Some people like to wipe cache and dalvic (no data wipe needed), some wipe nothing and just flash the kernel. Matrix runs great, so does Franco.

Wait so I don't have wipe anything of my phone before flashing a kernel?

A lot of people wipe absolutely nothing when only flashing a kernel. I always wipe cache and dalvik. It just takes a minute to wipe and maybe an extra 2 minutes when it boots back up. But you definitely do not need to wipe data to flash a kernel.

I've been lied to so for so many months,...

Hey dude, I'm running a quite an old device, HTC Incredible S, and was hoping you could help me out. I recently flashed a CyanogenMod 10.1 Unofficial, I've only installed the ROM, and I have the kernel that comes with it if it works that way. So should I just wait it out until the devices stabilizes because it's the first 5hours of use, or flash a new kernel, but it's quite hard to find a kernel that supports CyanogenMod 10.1 and Incredible S, or is it ok just to find one for CM 10.1, like the Matrix kernel, it's for CM 10.1 but if I recall correctly it wasn't for Incredible S.

Well I don't know maybe mines battery life is so bad because it's the unofficial version of CM, because my brightness is starting from 0-15, I don't have tasks on, I'm using SetCpu to underclock. I'm using CleanMaster, so my RAM usually is from 10%-50% and I clean my phone quite often.
