CyanogenMod 6.1 RC1 is out now

Not too bad. My Evo's been off the charger for almost 12 hours, and after a day of pretty heavy use, I'm sitting at 39% battery. Which is about what I usually get on any other ROM.

Is there anyway to use the visual voicemail from stock or will I have to use a 3rd party (youmail, etc)?

How good is the built in CM6.1 email app? I've been using K-9 for a while because I liked how it worked so well with multiple accounts (I still use the gmail app for my main gmail address).
That was a long time ago. K-9 now has some serious competition from other mail apps that are supposed to be very good. I haven't looked into any of them mainly because of inertia.
Now that I have the CM6.1 email app installed, what's good/bad about it?

best thing about this rom is the speed. No other rom gives me speed like this. How fast everything opens is the reason i had to come back to this rom. This is why i think aosp is great, doesnt slow down much.

I downloaded 6.1 included Google apps but I don't have Market app so I had to restore 6.0.0. Did I do something wrong?

If you used RomManager, you may have not gotten GAPPS properly. For some reason I have had the same isssue. I just download GAPPS separately from 6.1 and always keep it on the root of my SD card.

Grabbed 6.1 this morning and chose the Gapps bundle at time of download via Rom manager. Install went fine. This rom smokes compared to CM6.0 stable. So far, battery life seems identical with previous CM6 rom. I'll know more on that tomorrow. Spent a good deal of time tinkering/tweaking with this rom so I know that took a decent chunk out of battery.

Irregardless, I've noticed a huge increase in GPS lock speed, Wifi/3G switching behavior seems improved, apps open a TON faster as well. Really diggin the widget bundle menu. I hate clutter. Only issue I've ran into as of right now was getting Swype reinstalled. Seems there was a conflict with the key. I quick trip over to Swype to release the ESN cured that though.

holy moly its awesome! only thing that sucks is NO COPY & PASTE! :(

Arent other people including it?

Cyanogen and the team of developers only use open source software. A while ago they ran in to some legal trouble with Google for even including the google applications in the rom (gmail, market, etc.).

CM will only ever be open source software.

Thanks for the email update. You can always activate cut and paste through Swype (if you use it).
1) Bring up the swype keyboard (this will even work in places you don't have the option to input text) by long pressing the MENU key.
2) Drag your finger from the "tips" key (bottom most right) to the "sym" key. This will bring up the edit keyboard.
3) From here you can move the cursor, cut/paste, select, cursor jump, etc...
It may not be the most elegant solution for your cut and paste needs, but it works better than you might think for not being integrated into the app. It's also one of those power user short cuts that not many people know about. Let me know if you have any trouble.

i dont have swype, wish i did but i dont. Regardless it should included natively.

Read a couple posts above yours. Cyanogenmod is a Open Source rom. Swype is closed source and the Swype dev team have asked many sites to take down any links they see linking to swype apks.

I have some questions/issues about Flashing Cyanogemmod on my EVO.

I've rooted my device using the instructions from XDA-Developers here .
I've loaded ROM Manager and created a backup.

The first time I tried Flashing the Engineering SPL I was stuck in bootloader. I tried it a second time and the same thing happened. I used the ClockworkMod Recovery process. It seems like this overwrites the current rooted ROM? Is that possible? When I try to Flash the Engineering SPL I just get stuck in bootloader and cant get out.

Any suggestions/help would be appreciated. I've searched and haven't been able to find anything on this specific issues/solution. I'm assuming I'm doing something wrong and wanted to get clarification before trying this again and running into the same thing with this and flashing the Radio.

Hopefully this is posted in the correct forum.

Any help is appreciated.

Real quiok response to above:
1) Yes, cut and paste should be available natively. No argument there.
2) Swype is in closed beta. I have a legitimate copy as a participant in said beta. I wasn't suggesting that anyone unlawfully get a copy of swype to fix the cut and paste problem. My only suggestion is that if you have swype the "tips" to "Sym" drag is a really neat tool that not many are aware of.

While there are copies of the swype apk out there to be downloaded, I do NOT encourage anyone to install them in contravention of swype's beta development and eventual release plans/schedule.
