@ Kedar: I like the idea of running a snap kernel because I understand they are much better on battery life and performance but I'm not sure how to install them. I downloaded 7.3beta3 from
[Kernel] CM6-Snapv7.3beta3/OC/UV/AVS/BFQ. - xda-developers but I'm using this method:
How To: Unlock NAND on the HTC Evo 4G | TheUnlockr
to root my evo and this method
How To: Load a Custom ROM on the HTC Evo 4G | TheUnlockr
to load a custom rom.
Those are the only sites that seem to explain things on such a basic level that I can follow the directions simply. With that in mind, how can I get the 8/21 nightly and snap kernel like you have? (obviously I've downloaded the files but I'm just not sure how they fit into the instructions for "how to load a custom rom" that i posted)
THANKS!!
Hey!
Okay, I'm a bit fuzzy on the root process.
Have you finished the whole root + nand unlock process?
If so, then I can help you. I just did root one and never really did it again.
Warning! You'll have to wipe your data!
TBH... These are bad steps. I really suggest you just follow the ones on XDA cause they are better, but use mine as a reference.
1. Go to market and install "Rom Manager"... free version is what i use.
2. Sorry, messed up steps.

3. Again, messed up.

4. Open Rom Manager. Go down to Flash Alternate Recovery. Tap it to get Amon RA recovery. I say to do this because Clockwork, last time I checked, doesn't wipe properly.
5. Tap on Reboot into Recovery. It'll take you to a screen with options. You navigate up/down with the volume keys, choose with power key, and go back by pressing up/down volume keys at same time.
6. Go to backup and create a nand backup. It's a complete image of your phone at that time. So if something happens, you can always bring back the backup and restore it.
6. Go to wipe and wipe data, cache, and dalvik-cache. Do it twice if you want to to make sure.
7. Go to flash zip --> from sd card--> Flash the 8/21 nightly and then the snap kernel. Basically you choose a zip to flash and press power to select it. Flash the nightly first... it'll take some time and then the snap kernel afterwards.
8. Reboot. If you get bootloops, then pull the battery. Hold the volume down button while holding power button to get into the bootloader screen. Choose Recovery to get back into recovery. Then restore that nand backup you did earlier.
TBH... These are bad steps. I really suggest you just follow the ones on XDA cause they are better, but use mine as a reference.

Just use his directions.
It's really not that complicated. However, it'll seem that way the first time you do these things.
Hope that helps. Sorry it's vauge.
