d3 has root

2nd-init should work. CVPCS did a blog post the other day saying it is possible on Gingerbread kernels. This is good news for the Bionic because supposedly the exploit used to root the D3 exists in all the Motorola phones, so hopefully we'll have root at launch or soon after.

ALL Motorola phones? Heck yes! Yeah so we SHOULD see it work on the Bionic, they already should have finalized everything by now, so unless they update it as soon as I turn it on, there won't be anything stopping us.

I stay away from rooting lol. I tried on my og droid with a cyanogen mod and bricked my phone, I thank god fixed the phone but all the tech savvy rom talk is to much for me :D

I dont have any doubt the bionic will get root, and frankly it'll probably happen faster than it did for the d3. You'll probably see roms quick enough as well; I would expect there to be a pretty big dev community as popular as the bionic should be

Technically this root should work with the Bionic anyways right?

If this method of root works for the Bionic, first thing I'm doing is rooting the phone and removing the bloatware :)

I'll root it so they won't patch me, but I'll see how Blur works before I decide to remove it. But yeah, get rid of all that bloatware. When the heck am I ever going to use V Cast Music? Screw that lol.

If you Root the phone, and then do any updates, do you lose the root access?

Also If you root, remove the verizon bloatware, then do the updates, will the verizon bloat come back?

Will either of these scenarios potentially cause trouble?

Usually, yes on both items.

Normally you would just sit tight and let the dev community upgrade their ROMs with any new features from the official update then reflash.

I'm not a big ROMer, but if you root and remove the bloatware, you will probably have a very difficult time getting OTA updates from VZW. The better way is to freeze those apps. This is essentially renaming the application file to something the system doesn't recognise. When the next OTA you want to get comes out, you just have to rename those files back before you accept the OTA.

I'm sure when the Bionic is released and it has root, someone will post detailed instructions on how to freeze your bloat.

Please, Please, Please don't attempt to do this on your own, if you are not familiar with the process. If you remove the wrong file(s) you may end up bricking your phone. This becomes a bit safer when and if the SBF is leaked to us, but who knows how long this will take.

Edit: -- I forgot to answer your question. You will need the bloatware installed to get the next OTA update from VZW. So yes it will have to come back, sort of. Did I answer your question?

just my $0.02

Thanks for the info, it makes sense.

I definitely know to be very familiar with all these procedures before trying anything. I used to have some mods on my dumb phones, and some of those ran similar risks.
