I want a dark status bar but im afraid i dont know how to do the whole process. I rooted using 1 click root so i dont know how to write code or whatever needs to be done moving and downloading things. Is there a onle click status bar change? or could someone breakdown the process for a dummy like me? I would really appreciate it .

i am not using a custom rom. i wouldnt know how to do that either. i am really trying to learn all this stuff. and getting inpatient with my inability to learn the lingo and basic functions of hacking

You do have to get droid x bootstrap and rom manager. The first one will cost you 2. The second one there is a free version but would recommend buying the one for 3.99 to support them.

thank you for all the help . but i am still running a rooted 2.1 version. i didnt update to froyo when i had the chance. now i cant find it on the net , and honestly dont understand how to do it.
I don't mean to sound offensive, but this is why I feel "1-click" anything that SHOULD take some know-how to do, shouldn't exist. It makes it way too easy for people to get in over their heads, and instead of at least having experience from doing it the long way, they have no idea what to do and end up lost.
As for theme'ing itself, it's fairly simple. You just have to mount your /system/ as read/write and overwrite the Services.jar and framework.jar files. That should be all it takes to get a Dark Theme status bar. I believe there's a specific theme with just that called "NexTheme." I'm sorry I don't have a link on me at this time.

I found a black bar today in rom manager... its in download rom then onix concepts. I didn't try it out but looks like what your looking for.

So true. everyone should brick and mess up a few time so they can learn how to do this stuff and how to fix it. We are all here to help eachother. I learned a lot of stuff here and have done a lot to my phone and messed stuff up only to learn how to fix it. I do enjoy the easy was to root but I love changing my files for my drop down and boot up screen by changing around files. Makes me think i know what im doing when i really dont much
I disagree to a certain extent. While I do agree that it's a good thing to know the system inside and out, the one-click root method is great. I installed it, rooted, and 30 seconds later I was able to wirelessly tether to my laptop. That's all I wanted from root, so why should I have to worry about command lines and all that stuff?
It looks pretty slick. I am running the latest Tranquility build and haven't themed it yet but did use that black status bar and I really like it.
i just tried it out now. It looks sick! should have came like this. I just put it with Flyx and had no issues.
I want to learn how to do this stuff myself. Now, I know everyone is busy, but could someone maybe post a step by step on how to do this, or link to one? I tried to install a black notification bar with ROM Manager (the one that comes with it in the cool downloads section), but when I tried to do the manditory backup and reboot you have to do before getting started I got this message saying my system couldn't be backed up or something. I freaked and uninstalled. Sorry for the basic question, but I want to delve into theming and switching things up with the ROM and want to get started doing it the right way.

Try a theme like NexTheme or REVolution. Both have excellent black bars... and you dont have to install a custom ROM to theme. You can find detailed threads with instructions in this sub-forum: http://androidforums.com/droid-x-all-things-root/

Thanks for the tips - I found out what was wrong by doing the additional research (so much more rewarding anyway). It was all about Bootstrapper. Before, I had loaded it, but didn't open it when I tried to backup my ROM, so I re-installed the premium ROM Manager, downloaded Bootstrapper, opened it, clicked Bootstrap Reboot, then ran the backup in ROM Manager. Five minutes later, done. Backed up all apps and data in Titanium, too. I just check my SD card and everything is there. Now to try this stuff out for real...*ulp*
Now that you have ROM Manager and the Bootstrapper figured out, the first thing I'd do before messing around is boot into recovery and do a Nandroid backup so if you screw anything up, you'll be able to reload your whole system back to that point in time.
I did exactly this and it worked like a charm updating to Froyo 2.2 (note: SNAPPY!). As far as the dark bar goes, though, I went to install the on in ROM Manager, downloaded it, but when I clicked on it, I got a message asking if I want to back up system and wipe data and cache (checkboxes)> I'm assuming I leave them unchecked and click OK, but just want to be sure.
I make a backup each time just if I don't like the way things look I can go right back to what I had before with rom manager.

If you've backed up already since loading 2.2 and getting it all set up how you want it (settings, homescreens, etc) then you don't need to back up again before loading the black bar. You also don't need to wipe before doing so. Usually if you NEED to wipe data and cache before loading something there will be a note that you NEED to do so.
Okay, that was weird - I just tried to install in clockworkmod and when it rebooted all I got was the Motorola M you always see. It just stayed on that for several minutes until I did a battery pull and went back into Froyo.
OK, I think this happened to me for something as well and I needed to do is open up ROM Manager and "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" and then do the black bar mod again.
