Data connection

I have had Straight Talk for over 7 years (with 3 totally different phone types) & always had amazing data service. Early 2018 I purchased a new phone through Smart Pay (via Walmart/Straight Talk). Instead of transferring the sim card (same size, etc.) to my new phone, they sent me a new sim card. The new phone is a Samsung S8. Since the beginning and currently 9 months later I have extremely poor data connectivity while in & around my home. I have enquired about this countless times through ST. They checked the service area for my address and there is excellent coverage. I live in a small city that is not congested, my closest neighbor is 1/2 an acre away. Also, around midnight (give or take 30 min) I have great data service for 2-3 hours.
Does anyone have any idea as to what is the problem & how to clear it up? The only thing that has helped my sanity is tapping into the wifi of a store in close proximity to me, but I have to stay outside to use it.

Welcome to Android Central! Do you know which carrier's towers the new phone is connecting to? Straight Talk can use towers from any of the big 4 carriers, so if your current phone is trying to connect to, say, the nearest Sprint tower, and Sprint has terrible service near you, that might explain the issue. Your previous Straight Talk SIM might have been connecting to one of the other carriers' towers, with better signal.
