Data not toggling off

Does anyone know if this problem some of us are having with Data is Fi related only? Or is it possible it is a device problem? For those who are unaware, some folks (myself included) have been experiencing intermittent data toggle failure. When switching data off on my N6P I find that it is actually still on. I can toggle the switch off and on and when toggled off it shows as being off, but it's not. I have been incurring unnecessary data charges because of this. I submitted feedback tonight to the Fi folk, maybe they will have something to report on this......

If I recall correctly, this is an issue that has popped up in Android. Regardless, it is a known issue and is expected to be fixed "soon" (I believe the April security patch, though it may not be until a 6.02/6.1 update).

Did you try toggling airplane mode on and off?

Yes, this is the only sure-fire way of having data off on the phone. Sometimes toggling in and out of airplane mode clears up the problem for a short while. The only way I can clear the problem up consistently (again, only for a short while) is by forcing a switch to a different tower and then toggling off data, also about every 4th or 5th reboot will resolve the problem (again, only for a short while.) All of these work-arounds last for just a bit, I have found of late that I spend much of the time with the phone in airplane mode just to avoid using data and that really defeats the purpose of having a cell phone. Still no word from google support on this......

Today was a good day, the data toggle worked correctly all day. Most days of late I have to go into airplane mode to kill data though. I am starting to wonder if it is relative to which cell service one is connected with - maybe the problem only occurs when connected with T mobile vs Sprint or vice-versa. Since no one seems to be resolving this problem anytime soon, when I have some time I will experiment and see if my theory holds water. One thing I am fairly certain about is that it is a FI problem. I have the 6P and your post Raydee confirms the occurrence on the 5X so seems unlikely to be isolated to the 6P.

Update - Spoke with Google FI support today and they assured me that they are aware and working on this issue. So until there is a fix I will just keep my phone in airplane mode with wifi on when i want data off. I have to feel for FI support, they are probably fielding a lot of calls about this problem, my experience on the phone with them was great!

I called Support again today on this issue because it is getting old having to go into airplane mode all the time to solve this issue (setting a zero data amount limit on the phone doesn't work by the way, at least for me) and they tell me that the engineers are prepping an update with a fix for this to come out "shortly." I was very happy to hear this and needless to say FI Support gets another thumbs up from me!

And the problem continues. Got the April security update which I was assured would fix this problem and today it started doing it AGAIN! I was on the phone with FI support and sent them screenshots showing data use while toggled off. Damn Google would you please put your best and brightest on this and fix it once and for all!

According to FI CS - "The issue is caused when you turn off your device with the cellular data switch in the "OFF" position. The problem can be temporarily resolved by restarting your phone with the cellular data switch in the "ON" position." According to a FI CS supervisor, once you turn your phone back on with the toggle for data in the ON position your toggle switch should work correctly until the next time your phone powers down with the data toggle off. This problem became evident for a lot of people who had their data toggled off when the March security update hit the phone and caused the problem after the phone rebooted for the update. Also, the fix for this is still being tested and will come out shortly as A FI App update and not in a google security update. notice i indicated "should" above....lol

This is really starting to p**s me off. So after getting confirmation from a google fi Customer support supervisor today that the problem lies in turning off your device with the data toggle off causes the problem AND turning the phone on with the data toggle in the on position will resolve this issue I am now finding on my device that this is a load of crap. I have been experimenting with it and Google is wrong, I can turn my phone off with data toggled on, turn it back on and then toggle data off and the phone is STILL USING DATA while data is toggled off. So here goes another fix out the window. Sorry folks, I give up. I am pretty sure that I am going to have to ditch these guys until they can get their act together.
