Seriously though, what's to stop me from tethering this thing to my laptop and burning through torrents all night?

Them throwing a cap on data and throttling down speeds heavily.



It's going to happen, it's a shame that people abuse the system and screw it up for the rest of us. Unlimited does not mean Unlimited, use some common sense people. Bandwidth is not free.

The only reason Verizon is given us unlimited with this device, cause you can bet your ass they wont with anything else from now on is so they can get an accurate assessment of how much data people use and how the data usage will work in their 4G area's. So by people just using as much as possible for the hell of, all your doing is screwing yourself in the long run. They will base their tiers off our usages!! So don't ruin it for everyone else and yourselves because later on down the road you will need a new phone which means new contract and pricing. I am not saying don't test the network out and the hotspot and admire how fast it truly is, I am just saying don't just download 24/7 just to see how much you can use. That's all I am saying, if your in a 4G area then download a movie in minutes, show your buddies how fast your new phone is but please don't abuse the system.

If this was true, I would expect 4g service to be un-throttled. Throttling would ruin their data sets if they don't up the "trigger" point.

With this kind of thread, i wonder how long it'll be before we see, "OMG Verizon throttled my data connection!!!"

They can throttle anyone who falls into the top 5%, which I'm guessing anyone grabbing 4-5gb or more will.

If you want to try and use as much data a possible I would make you sure read the fine print on the promotion very carefully. Verizon offers free 3G mobile hotspot for my Palm Pre Plus. The fine print on the website states that my free mobile hotspot includes 5 gb of data access for high speed wireless internet access and any usage above the 5 gb monthly allowance will be billed at a per MB rate.
