Data usage out of control on my Pixel XL

I need help in controlling my data usage on my new Pixel XL. Any suggestions?
on my previous phone, a Samsung III, I never exceeded my 1 GB data. 15 days in on my Pixel I already exceeded my 1GB and had to upgrade. I do not stream, or video chat.

Try going into your settings to see what's using your data.

Settings, data usage then select cellular data usage.

this phone is in contant communication with the network to provide you input. If you don't want google to give you that info then you can shut it off. Also make sure you have things set correctly for data.

wifi assistance will add cell data to wifi when weak or unavailable. switch that to wifi only.
change gps to use only gps
make sure your auto updates are set to wifi only and if your me not to auto update. I like to do it to know whats updating.
photo back up again make sure its wifi only
change google sync to wifi only or only when accessing it. gmail being the big one if you use it.
you can also download google maps in your home area via wifi and then it will use that instead of searching for it.

i am sure there are more and of course it depends on what you are using or want to use.
