Day 2 on 6T (Note 9 not liking this)

I think the camera competes very well in still photos. When my kids are moving around... Not as good. That's when I switch to gcam. Then they aren't blurry

Not held back anymore. This morning I pulled the trigger.

What's holding me back was I just for this S9 earlier this year. I didn't want to waste the money on the S9. I can sell it because it's in perfect condition and I have all the accessories.

Also the camera in the reviews aren't as good as the Samsung. But I have to wonder how that's like in real life. I'm just a regular old picture taker. Sure I want them to look good. But I don't have the eye for capturing any fancy smancy pic. The portrait/selective focus/what ever it's called is a nice feature on the phones I've had. iPhones and Galaxy S9. How do you like the camera on the OnePlus vs the Note? Any real world differences for a non professional and or not that darn picky regular old Joe?
You wont regret it. Camera on 6T is more than fine for regular folks like us. Took quite a few in the last couple days. Good looking photos. And by the way, it also has that portrait mode too. You won't be losing anything. Sell your S9 and it will probably cover the entire cost of your new 6T.

After 3 days of use, the only thing I wished the 6T has is always on display. You will need to either double tap the screen or pick up the phone for the Ambite display to come on to see if you have any notifications. Not a big deal if your not glued to your phone 24/7 and need to know about notifications as they come in. Between you and me, we need a freaking few minutes break from all this technology.

Let us know how you like it when you get it and if it wins you over your S9.

This is my battery life on my S9 this morning. Just over 4 hours of use and down to 15%. This is one of the reasons I parked the phone for two months and went back to the iPhone. That and the sluggish preformance.

I thought I would miss the always on display too and what I found after getting the 6T was that I was looking at my phone to see if anything had changed constantly. Whereas with the ambient display I have it set to light up when there a notification and I am looking at my phone way less.

As for the camera, no it's not as good as the Pixel 2 I came from but unless you start looking in and Pixel peeping it's pretty close and I think the colors are better in a lot of shots. It's as good or better than the LG and Samsung phones I used before I got the Pixel 2.

switched my carrier to T-Mobile over the Black Friday promotions and got a free line and a free 6T.

Never owned a OnePlus before but current phone is Note 9. Previous phones I owned, Note 8, S8+, S7 Edge, Pixel 2 XL (the most recent).

Have been using the phone for 2 days and I am impressed enough to move my main SIM to it and make it my daily driver.

Let me put it this way and very simple. This phone making me feel like a fool for paying $1000 + for Note 9.

Now, I love the Note series, but the Note 9 is double the price of a 6T. This is just PURE NUTS.

I'll be using the 6T for the next few weeks. If I am able to live without my Note 9, it will be the start of OnePlus journey for me. I would love to not waste my hard earned money on flagship expensive phones and OnePlus seems to be the saver.

Very impressed. This thing is such a joy to use!
If you don't want or need the features that Samsung gives you then it makes sense to move to one plus. Just because the Note is more expensive doesn't make it a waste. You get WAY more with the Note. You cannot compare a base model car to the loaded model.

unless you are totally addicted to the SPen, there isnt anything critical missing on the 6T; sure, I'd like wireless charging, but, the battery blows away anything from samsung, so you get a full day on the 6T with no problem, the screen is great, who cares about stereo speakers on a cell phone anymore, headphone jack is a non issue since you get an adapter in the box with the 6T, dont even know why anyone would care about a secure Iris lock, unless you are a secret agent or a criminal, and, of course, you SAVE 450 bucks, actually more when you throw in the screen protector and case, both included for free..
Oh, and dont forget, NO SAMSUNG BLOAT!!
and, BTW, if you are into customizing your phone, you can actually ROOT the 6T; try that with your TMO Samsung phone..
Dumped my Note 8 for this thing, and couldnt be happier..
Rooting is pointless these days.

The issue is defining “WAY” more. If way more is the s-pen then it’s game over. Samsung wins. Take the s-pen out of the equation and Samsung hardly has WAY more. Other than the S pen, expandable storage and headphone jack, the OnePlus 6T and the Note are about the same. Yes the camera is better on the Note. But real world differences isn’t that noticeable. If you have no experience with the S-Pen and don’t mind Bluetooth ear buds then the only thing is the expandable memory. Which for many isn’t an issue. Google photos has all my pics and I subscribe to YouTube Premium so I get all the music I want. Unlimited data also on T-Mobile so I don’t really need extra storage. Besides the 256GB model is well $629. $370 less than the base 128gb Note. That’s a chunk of change for a S-Pen

P.S. Sent from my iPhone because my S9 is on the charger.

the note is more justified for its price then any other flagship at that price
battery
DeX
spen
ip68
sd card
head phone Jack
it has all the features most manufacturers taking out .. the phone is for different type of people , it's a workhorse
my 1+6 is very good device also , I think its fastest smoothest device , love my iPhone x also and my pixel 3xl
but for the price of 1+6 or T it offers alot for not crazy price .

The bottom line is, $1000+ for a phone is RIDICULOUS.

Yes I have a Note 9 and love it. All what I am trying to do is trying to figure if I should stop wasting my money on the likes of Notes and Ss. I am not comparing.

It's been 3 days on 6T as main driver. Are there things that I miss on Note 9? Sure, AOD is one. But I am tired of paying $1000+ for a phone. It's that simple. So will see what happens. Have not made it my mind yet, but I can tell you I am enjoying the 6T a lot.

I think phones are becoming a hobbyist type thing for some. Out of all the family, friends, and coworkers... Not one of them has ever justified their purchase based on features or productivity.

My wife's phone only exists for Candy crush and Facebook. My daughter uses a camera app that helps her with math sometimes... Otherwise, Instagram, snap chat, etc.

My brother is an entrepreneur. He uses his phone the most in terms of productivity. It's an S7 edge. He uses Facebook to keep up with trends and promote his own initiatives. He uses the web browser to stay informed and email for communication.

The only note users I've run into are enthusiasts. Nobody needs to justify their purchase. A headphone jack is maybe a dollar in parts plus build. The features that are listed over and over aren't worth an extra $500. People who pay extra just want the phone. No big deal.

I think people buy phones based on "experience". That's why Apple wins over so many. Features don't equal experience.

Also... Why do people keep talking about the headphone jack? The USB adapter works just fine. And the battery lasts long enough that I don't care about simultaneously charging.

That’s just it. The battery isn’t better than the OnePlus. And DeX?? Who really uses that. If I’m sitting down I’m gonna use my desktop. Way faster and way better. ip68 is good yes but again, I’m not swimming with my phone and the 6T is water resistant. SD card is nice, but google photos and play music negate the need for a card if you have unlimited data. Headphone jack is nice but Bluetooth headphones are out there and to some a better option. S-Pen is the only true differentiator for those who just must have one. Is the S-Pen really worth the $500? That’s the question. I have no experience with an s-Pen other than a few times on my mothers Note 5. Some folks have deal breakers. Options they can’t live without. Headphone jacks, expandable memory, S-Pen etc. The question that needs to be answered is are those options really worth the extra money. Is it really a deal breaker. I don’t use headphones much, my photos are backed up to the clouds and I have unlimited music options added in to other services. At one time expandable storage was a deal breaker for me. That’s one reason I prefer Android to iOS. But upon further review it’s not really a deal breaker. For me a deal breaker is battery life. From what I read the OnePlus has that covered in spades.

Is the Note a better phone than the OnePlus 6T. Yes. No way to argue the point. Is the Note worth $500 more than the 6T. Regardless of if you can afford the Note or not. Is it worth $500 more. Some don’t consider value, they just want the best specs, be damn the price. Others want specs and value. Even when they can easily afford the more expensive option. There’s something about rocking 95% of the phone someone else is using for $500 less. Makes you feel good. Even though you still dropped flagship money of just three years ago on a flagship killer.

Yeah everyone has different preference on what they looking for in a phone , no question all these flagship are expensive . Yes my battery is alot better then my 1+6 or any phone I have which I constantly get 10 hrs sot and 1 day battery , if I dont use it heavy 6 sot 2 days easy then if I want to get 3 days without charging just click on the other battery save modes.
I like sd card not just pictures but when I flash software updates and other things its good to have when your out and about and dont need connection again my opinion I rather have then not have and for headphone Jack I like because you dont need to charge another thing meaning by bluetooth wireless earbuds , I use them during day and by time I'm home I like to kick back watch YouTube and just use the Jack while they charge . I dont like wear and tear on charging port from charger and headphones so I like options which this phone gives me from headphones hack, wireless charging to sd card my other phones dont . Like I said everyone different but this why I like my Note alot .

I didn’t think about having to charge the wireless Bluetooth headphones. Good point. But the 6T does come with an adaptor. And there’s usb-c wired headsets too. The way I change out phones I don’t think I’ll have to worry about wearing out the ports. Haha.

You’re getting exceptional battery life out of your Note. The OP referenced another forum where folks report that type of battery life for the 6T.

You seem to be quite satisfied with your Note. And that’s what it’s all about. Being content and satisfied. I’m hoping I can be as satisfied with my incoming 6T. My S9 just ain’t cutting it. And I’m trying my best to escape the walled garden of iOS. I can’t justify buying a Note after getting the S9 6 months ago. Even if I can sell the S9. I’m sitting an iPhone 7s and an iPhone 8s that I’m not using how. My track record isn’t selling phones. It’s accumulating them. Haha. Not a matter of affording it. Justifying the purchase for me is just as important.

Yes I know if I sell them all I can get a Note and an OnePlus. Haha.

Yeah I'm satisfied with the note 9
I have also the s9+ which is pretty solid not sure on the regular s9. I think you'll be happy with the 1+6T I'm Happy with my 1+6 .
Man I have issue with all the phones I have lol I can't part with any of them for different reasons. If you can pull it and be on both platforms not a bad idea meaning apple and Android. Even though iPhone locked down I still like them they make beautiful phones and just work . Im not heavily invested in any one platform so I can go back and forth . All the forums I'm in I tell everyone that 1+6 is a solid device that won't break the bank and it has very well polished software and good high end specs .

Bottom line is, the OnePlus allows you to play with the flagships at not the flagship price.
Think of it as say, a Subaru WRX vs a BMW 320. Both are capable of the same things, with the Subaru being able to drive faster and definitely more fun to drive and around $10,000 cheaper. The BMW does bring you things like better seats, heated seats, more cup holders, more airbags, etc.
But in the end, do you need those features? You can add those features aftermarket as well, but you'll need to look for a place you trust to install those for you, as well as looking for aftermarket brands you would trust.
BMW has those already built in, and you're not only paying for those, you're paying for the convenience of them already being there. Just like with Samsung, you're not paying separately for a $100 active stylus to get accuracy (the third party one that comes closest to an S Pen is the WACOM Bamboo Tip for around that price), you're not paying separately for a $10 bluetooth toggle, you're not looking for apps like Parallel Space, Reachability apps for Android, Markup, apps that allow you to adjust game performance FPS/reso/etc on an individual basis, among a lot of other Samsung QoL features. You're also paying for the convenience of not having to go look for them in the first place. Which is essentially what luxury brands are, if we keep on using the car analogy. Entry level cars don't have heated seats, the luxury version comes with it standard, and the price is difference is more than just what the heated seats would cost if you bought them and installed them yourself.
In the end, Samsung is a luxury brand when it comes to phones. It's more about what's already included in the phone and the QoL, and the looks, apart from actual raw performance. Performance can take a bit of a hit as long as it already has all the convenience features in place is more of the mantra for luxury brands.
Take a look at their mid range phones. The Galaxy A8 2018 is essentially a lower mid range phone dressed in a bit ill-fitting S9 clothes and features. It has the stuff like wireless charging, IP68, etc. But it's CPU is a bit meh today (about 80% performance as an S7). Contrast it with the OnePlus 6, who when sitting beside the mid-range offerings of Huawei, Samsung, LG, Xiaomi, etc, is basically a flagship SoC dressed in a mid-ranger's body. The same as the higher mid-rangers where basically everything is good enough, you suddenly add the best CPU available.
Going with the car analogy, it's a Subaru WRX, or a Lancer EVO. You get a $20,000 car, and slap on an engine that can let the car compete in drag races with the some models of cars like Lambos and Ferraris that cost more than 3x the WRX/EVO itself. But at the end of the day, the other guy is still driving a Ferrari, even if you beat his sorry *** in a road race with your EVO that costs less than half of what he paid for his car.
Basically, it's a "So what if performance is the same for lower price. I can still put my phone in the middle of the table in some restaurant and have it charge from the built in wireless charger there. Yours can't." type of situation. The actual fact of having convenience features built-in in todays world costs more than the hardware that allows those convenience features to actually be present.
