Daydream so unstable it isn't usable

How has everyone else found Daydream? I got the headset a few days ago and haven't been able to get more than about 5 minutes use out of it per session before it crashes. Different apps and just the landing 'area' crash often.

I've wiped the phone, disabled notifications, installed different launchers all with the same result.

Anyone else had this or a different experience with Daydream?

Hmm, it's working ok for me on my S8. Not to say it's NEVER crashed. A Within video refused to play once and forced me to reboot the phone to fix the situation, but otherwise I've been fine. In fact the S8 has been better for me then any other phone, qualitywise inside the Daydream! I've had a Pixel, Pixel XL and Moto Z Force in there as well, but the S8 fits the best AND has the best looking picture! I wonder if it's a bluetooth issue? What other stuff are you bluetooth connecting besides the controller?

Nothing else connected to Bluetooth. Good to know that it's working for at least one S8! That means there must be an issue for me somewhere. tonight when I get home I'll try one more time to wipe the device back to scratch and only install daydream. If that works then there might be a clash with another app I'm installing, but I'm really only using popular apps like facebook, Instagram ETC.

Can I ask an question on the behaviour of yours? When you've finished a session and take the phone out of the headset, does it automatically return to the homescreen or do you need to click the little x on the top left. If I take mine out before it crashes I need to click the X.

You need to close the app with the X, its like that with all phones. Its annoying as hell! That's not unique to the S8. ;)

Just took my S8 back and got a brand new replacement. I have the same issue! Daydream barely works and crashes all the time. Maybe it's a google daydream headset issue, sounds unlikely as it's just a headset and simple Bluetooth controller? Or maybe it's just not ready software wise, but pkcable it is working for you.

I haven't really done a marathon session with it yet, but I will tonight and let you know how I make out.

Have a go. I now replaced the google daydream googles and have the same issue (this is with a new phone and new googles). Completely unstable and crashing consistently. That's just with the photos app, and then try out the arts & culture VR by google. With those two apps installed along with daydream I'm able to replicate crashes within a few mins pretty easily.

Is the phone hot to the touch upon taking it out of the Daydream? If so maybe you need the heatsink?

I have another person in Australia with the same issue as me. I've narrowed down the problem to NFC. If I use the daydream with some foil over the lid so the NFC can't read then it works perfectly. Hopefully an update come out soon.
