Wow!! This is absolutely terrible, especially coming from HTC... the manufacturer I pride most for build quality.
I am shocked.
I am shocked.

wow man, sucks to hear your having all this trouble.. I'd be pretty adamant about them swapping your phone for one that is in perfect condition if I was you(without being rude of course).
How did dust get under the screen in the first place.. ahhh :/
Man I would be on the phone with Verizon and request to speak a higher up to see what could be done about this? Atleast worth a shot.
You could wait for the iFix-it tear down of the phone. Which would reveal if the LCD is permanently attached to the glass face. If it is, then the dust is probably stuck in that glue between them. If it is not then it could easily be cleaned out (with the risk of adding more dust). Not to mention that phone tear downs can be quite difficult, and void your warranteedoes anyone know if there is ANY way at all to get the spec of dust out? I mean if I can get it out and no more gets underneath problem solved, theres no dead pixels or screen leakage on this one.. Ugh lol

I think your best bet for immediate action is to hit that other BestBuy up. They will probably give you another "5" attempts at a good one. Be super nice, and just look really sad and disappointed. If the piece of dust really is as big as you say, the customer service person will be totally on board with getting you a good one.
I hope you get this solved! Good luck! It's kind of miserable looking through the forum and seeing all these problems after we all waited so long :/
Should have just stuck with the light leak problem. My TB, knock on wood, has been absolutely rock solid. No light leak, no dim buttons, no dust.
sorry to hear the bad news. the manufacturing plant must be well below our acceptable standards for cleanliness.
good luck at the other Best Buy. if that doesn't work, I would return the phone &, if you still have the heart for it, try buying the phone directly from Verizon if possible. They will probably open the box and make sure you're satisfied before you walk out the door.
i'm confident you'll find your Thunderbolt.
personally, i'd rather use a busted Droid than a new iPhone any day. that's me, though.
Post a pic...maybe we all have dust.
