Dealing with limited space - questions from a Luddite

[Android Central Question]

Apologies for the daft questions but here we go:

I purchased a Nokia 5 and a SanDisk Ultra 64 GB Memory Card.

My first numpty question - can the memory card be used for photos and apps? I'm assuming not because when I formatted for photos, I can't move apps to the Micro SD as there's no options under Storage on the app. However when I changed the format of the disc for apps, when I tried to take a photo, I got an error message saying "insert SD card."

I can then only guess the ideal workaround then would be to change the photo settings so they save on the phone, and store the photos in the cloud but again I can't seem to be able to change the default phone settings.

Insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

1. Yes the card can be used for photos. I am not sure what you mean by 'formatted' for photos. You just pop the card in and use the file manager to move the photos to the card into a folder you make. You can also go to your camera's settings to change default storagr space to SD card.

2. The apps cannot be normally moved to SD card. This is an additional feature offered on LG and Samsung phones. Since Nokia runs near stock Android, they may not have this feature enabled.

3. You can set the card as an expansion of internal storage, allowing both storages to act as 1 big drive, but honestly I think it's not a good idea for several reasons.

When I popped the SD card in, the phone gave me two choices for formatting the card so I don't think that's wrong ....

Also I could move the apps to the MicroSD. It worked, and the apps were fine. The problem was then I couldn't save photos.

Hmm. Let's wait for someone with experience on a Nokia or more recent stock Android. Seems your device is behaving differently from mine (I got a Samsung).
