Is the recent price drop signaling the death knell of the first generation Flyer and is HTC abandoning us without the Honeycomb upgrade that was promised to be delivered soon after release in May? Without Honeycomb our pen app future looks bleak.

Nope. HTC will release Honeycomb, then eol it around 3-6 months afterward. They announced it would get Honeycomb when it came out. They would run into some issues if they went back on that because that's the only reason some people bought it. (not me) Personally, I bought it for an ereader first and foremost. The rest is icing, and for $299.00 it was well worth it.

I shared your optimism for the promised upgrades when I purchased the Flyer in May, but at this point it has faded. I do share your opinion that we will see EOL in a few months, which IMO, results from poor marketing and failed promises for upgrades and app development leading to poor sales. I do applaud your $299 buy in point.

Guess this is one of those rare moments of optimism I have (nickname is Eeyore). The $299 price point is breathtaking (although I really stopped breathing for a few minutes yesterday at $99). I have no doubt we will get Honeycomb, but just wonder if it will truly be better, and as snappy, as the current version. As for EOL - that's a certainty for almost any Android device over 9 months old - all of the manufacturers seem intent on auto industry type new car mania - whoever really said we need new models EVERY YEAR? So EOL really doesn't scare me; in fact, all my best computing bargains have come close to EOL anyway. :D

The Flyer will still be relevant in a couple of years. I have no scientific or marketing data to support that claim, but at the price point, it is going to get a few more fans. NOBODY has written many ROM's for a tab as of yet, and I honestly don't know if we need any. I'm rooted already, so I'm game when/if stable ones are released. I tried quite a few tabs, and the ONLY one I liked was the Flyer. I just didn't like the pricetag for it before. I didn't like ANY of the pricetags on ANY of the tabs though. If a SGT-10 dropped to $299.00 I wouldn't buy it. I hated that thing.

EOL in theory doesn't bother me, but EOL anytime before the end of the year for the Flyer would definitely annoy me -- the thing's been on sale less than 5 months as of now.

There are leaked honeycomb ROMS online.

Leaked but not signed....I flash the bell out of my phone, but not this...yet. if decks made a straight gb ROM for this I'd be running it already
