Debating on the G2 - Questions

I recently switched from an S4 to the G2, and I have been 99% happy with the switch.

PROS:

(1) Screen is much brighter than S4, and visible in sunlight.

(2) Nova runs great on either, but everything is a bit smoother on the G2.

(3) The back buttons are fantastic, and completely prevent accidental button presses when holding or pocketing the phone.

(4) I hated the mechanical home button with a passion, and much prefer the soft-keys of the G2. You can even choose which keys are positioned where, to emulate either the Samsung positioning or the Nexus positioning.

(5) Knock-on, knock-off is great! It means you almost never need to use the mechanical on-off button at all.

(6) Battery life is *much* better.

CON:

(1) The speaker is quieter than the S4.

As far as the camera, I am not a high-end photographer, and I have been equally satisfied with the S4 and G2 cameras.

Thanks for this comparison. Right now I'm between the G2 and the X. I think the Note 3 is too big for me.

If camera is important to you at all on a phone, then seriously evaluate the X camera before you take the plunge. The camera set up on the X and the rest of the droid line killed it for me. The amount of settings that were taken away from the camera blew my mind. I came to the LG from the RAZR HD.

If you're down to those 2 then I'd say the biggest difference is the software experience. Near stock vs LG's skin :)

I don't care about settings. I just want a camera that takes a good quick picture that I can share. Of the settings on the S4, the only ones I use are night and auto. So I'm not all that worried about it. The quick access on the G2 looks pretty good, though.

I am really loving the lock screen widget for camera access.

Has anyone seen my stylus?

I think that's probably the same thing that the S4 has. I was referring to holding the volume down button to turn on the camera. I think that's a great feature. Really, a lot of this phone is incredible. My biggest issues are LG's skin and that we haven't heard anything about future updates. Nothing about 4.3 and definitely nothing about 4.4.

The Moto X has the shake to open camera feature, looks awesome. If I could have any phone right now, I would get the Moto X :D
The small form factor yet a big screen stands out when compared to the G2/One/Note 3

Holding the volume down button only turns the volume down. It does not turn the camera itself on. You can capture when you are already in camera mode by hitting volume down. That is of course unless I'm missing a setting somewhere. The moto x does do an amazing quick on with the camera, and hopefully with updates the camera will improve.

It's supposed to open the camera according to everything I've read. I've been researching all weekend.

I wasn't doing it with the screen off, but you are correct!! Thanks! I hope you do get this phone. It is everything and more!

I spent 30 days with the driod maxx and then 30 days with the g2 and since then I have gone back to me gnex. I am on a corporate account, I have the luxury of having 30 days to "evaluate" a phone. I had oringinally hoped for the nexus 5 on VZW and then even thought about leaving the corporate account and getting a nexus 5 prepaid since the company will reimburse me. But after seeing the preliminary reviews on the battery life and the fact that both AOKP and CM have now been ported over the g2, I am going back to the G2. I really liked both the Maxx and G2. The maxx was awesome and the battery was killer. 9 hours screen time and 40 hours of total use. I only had to charge it every other day. The screen was great and the software was good too. Active notifications were awesome and really made me not miss the indicator led, top it off with touchless control and double twist for the camera and it was a great device. I really liked the phone and would have no issues about it being my daily driver. The only down side is I am not a fan of the buttons. Enter the G2 - the screen is surpurb.. better (by a small margin) than the MAXX. The form factor and size were great felt just as good as the maxx (although the kevlar fiber back of the maxx is sweet) and I beleive is a tad lighter. The rear buttons take some getting used to but once you figure it out, it makes sense.. The software is ok, I am an AOSP fan with light skins (CM / AOKP) and hate the capacitive buttons.

I am going back to the G2 instead of the MAXX for the following reasons -
1) Form factor
2) Screen
3) Battery is good enough
4) AOKP / CM / Developer and ROM Support

That's a lot of info. Thanks! I won't be rooting or doing anything like that, so that doesn't matter to me. The only thing I will do is install Nova for a little more stock look. I've been debating between this and the Moto X for some time now. And I can't really decide. I love stock phones and I'm afraid of the buttons on the back of the G2. But then I also worry that the X doesn't have enough for me aside from stock look and active notifications.

Well, what do you need for your phone to do?

I do change a lot, I have I new phone addiction. 6 months is about all I can handle. Ha. I've been checking out the G2, Note 3, One, and X. Can't really decide between them all. Not sure about the size of the Note. And I think 4.3 vastly improved the speed of the S4. There are some other glitches that I'm not a huge fan of, however.
I to share your affliction for phones. Lol, every time I buy one, I say, this one will make it for more than 6 months. I always buy the flagships, had s2, s3, s4, had to try the s4, don't care for Samsung's, but had to try. The only phone I had longer than 6 months was the optimus g. Bought iPhone 5(had to try it) within a month it was on eBay and had to find another g cause I sold mine when I purchased the icrap 5. From there I went to the HTC one, again, wow, I can keep this, nothing gonna sway me away(yeah right). I'm not a fan of large phones, I thought 5+ inch would be way too big, but along side the HTC they are almost same size due to the boom sound. So, I did my reading, watched review videos, and purchased new g2 on eBay, and the HTC is now up for sale there. HTC was great, but this thing is a damn beast. First charge, I got over 20 hrs with over 5 hr screen on. Some say they don't like the plastic, too samsungy , but hey, majority of us case our gems. The only thing I will miss is the boom sound, I figured I'd chime in, hope it helped.

Take good pictures, last all day, be smooth and not lag, look good, be somewhat intuitive to use, have some bells and whistles that are useful and not just flung against the wall, be supported in the future, and maintain resale value so I'm not taking it on the chin when I resell.

Man, I change repeatedly. It's an expensive problem. I keep doing research on this phone. The only thing I'm not totally sure on is their skin and the button placement. I guess I worry about LG's update and support history, as well. Everything I've read about it looks good, though. I'd like to get something that will last around 6 months for me. This looks like it could based on specs alone. But part of me still loves a Nexus-like experience, which the X provides. But I also worry that the X won't have enough bells and whistles for me.

Ok, sounds reasonable :)
Pictures: G2
Battery: G2 but both should make it all day with regular use
Smooth/Lag-free: Moto X
Look: Moto X (If you're on AT&T even better)
Intuitive: Moto X by far
Bells and Whistles: Moto X. I've heard Active Notifications and Touchless Controls are amazing, lots of people said they couldn't go back to a phone without it
Support: Moto X by far
Resale value: Not sure :(

I think the features of the X are better than the ones on the G2. Touchless Controls and Active Notifications are actually really useful
Only think I'd like on the G2 is the Knock-Knock feature but Active Notifications are better imo :)

I think the X Phone from Moto is a major JOKE and a major loose to the the consumer without a dought, the G2 is a major upgrade to the X.

I would take into consideration what you said if it made any sense, but it doesn't
