Seriously?

I had no idea the Nexus S was ONLY an ad-hoc router. Are you positive?


My Nexus One has been full infrastructure router since Day One, and I've never found anything I couldn't wifi tether to it.

Greed from the cell phone company is my best guess. I was able to get infrastructure by rooting and using Wifi Tether for root, but the native tethering was strictly Ad Hoc, at least on the CDMA version of the Nexus S. The problem with using the app to create Netd was it would shut down sporadically. I had no problem getting my laptop hooked up to the native, but the tab was only finding it and then refusing to connect. This update was a lifesaver for me. The native tether runs as smooth as butter.

For the first time ever, my A500 will run off my native tethering (ad hoc from Nexus S)!!!

I have a rooted Droid charge and cannot tether with my stock a500. I'm trying to use barnacle, open garden, and wifi tether. Nothing works. My stock a100 connects to wifi tether with no problem. I do have recent updates on a500.


UPDATE: DONT KNOW HOW BUT I GOT WIFI TETHER TO WORK. IM HAPPY.

For everybody who hasn't gotten the 3.2.1 update do a factory restore if it's not pushed you have to got mine by talking by acer support that's what they told me

Why does support tell you to do a factory reset every time something doesn't work? I despise having to reinstall all my apps every time.

We all hate doing it but believe it or not factory resets fix most problems people have.

I found this to be the "fix all" for all android based devices this is why I switched to an IPhone and guess what, no more having to reset. Android is still a very buggy OS.

My brother got his son an iPod Touch for Christmas. He has an iPhone and his wife has an iPad so they were excited about the kiddo being able to load all his apps onto his Touch (same account, everything should work if they all have the same account registered to the devices). Sure enough - even the great iPhone has problems. Locked the sucker up all Christmas day. He couldn't get anything to load onto it, it just kept saying that it was loading and nothing ever happened. Apple's suggestion - do a factory reset.

It's not just Android. These are not perfect systems and won't be for a long time. The "cloud" seems to be screwing up lots for those devices. My g/f has a 4s and the battery life is TERRIBLE. She can't make it through a school day and is constantly having to keep the thing plugged in. Reminds me a lot of my original Evo with stock battery. The more crap these phones get on them, the worse they will run. I am using a stripped down Nexus and it is the bomb diggity. Reminds me of the battery life that my iPhone 2 used to get.

I have a 4S and it lasts me at least 2 days with moderate usage. Sounds like she got a dud man. Apparently you're not supposed to set it up as a restored device from a previous iPhone so this may be simply a software issue. A clean start is always the best way to go with a new phone. I have had zero problems with icloud as well. It has actually been quite useful.

Anyway, you really are correct though. Phones aren't perfect and never will be. Factory resets are always going to be a part of the troubleshooting process because, well, it's effective! Not to mention if it doesn't fix your problem, it pretty much rules out software issues and almost guarantees that you have a dud with hardware defects which is good to know right?

I'm in the UK and the updates came yesterday. I didn't do a factory reset but have been checking a couple of times a week to see if the updates were available. Haven't had time to see what changes - good or bad - have happened.
