Decembers security patch or January

Yes, this is pretty much what I've seen -- it's simply using more battery on standby with no obvious culprit. And like you, my battery life remained excellent after Oreo and only fell off after the latest update.

Part of me suspects it's due to a Spectre patch, but of course I have zero evidence for it. My own problem with doing an FDR is that I have the darn thing setup exactly as I want it -- all of the extraneous HTC Sense stuff turned off, my smartwatch configured perfectly (which is more of a pain than it should be), and the Alexa stuff optimized for me.

So again, just grrr. Not the end of the world, it's just I'm really busy this week and it's a bad time to both have poor battery life and need to do an FDR and get everything setup again. Another week and it wouldn't bug me so much. Toss in the fact that I'm not 100% certain the FDR will actually resolve the problem.

I was having poor battery issues after the 8.0 update. I was getting great battery on 7.1.1. I was hoping that see you the 7th. They will fix my battery issue. I had done a factory data reset after upgrade to Oreo. So I'm going to do a factory data reset tonight and hope that fixes it if it doesn't then there's something seriously wrong with the bass Oreo for u11 that needs to be fixed

Yes. Maintenance. Phones from the previous years aren't as complicated back then. Hell, Dalvik could probably handle things better when ART first came out, but ART was the next step. ART brought AoT. It's just that the processes these CPUs use to do all the things you want them to do have become exponentially more complicated. Hence the 64 bit architecture. Hence the smaller and smaller nM processes. If you have a software engineering degree then you should understand that this is becoming a windows-like OS. And guess what, all windows OSs require maintenance. The further and further we advance in this tech space, the more and more complicated things are going to get. That's how this works. Yes, in theory, they should just work. Real life and historical data tells me that it's only going to come with more and/or different hiccups along the way.
So, a basic question: would backing up the phone and restoring achieve what's needed, or would I have to restore app by app?

Personally, I don't have anything that requires restoration. I do have to re-login to everything, but I don't play games or anything like that. When I do a FDR(about over l, I never tap the option "restore from backup". I'd assume that feature should work. It's displayed at start up.

will I did the fdr and so far and put all my apps back and so far I am still having bad battery life I guess I am stuck. in less you know any thing else. now I have to sign into everything even though it didn't help the battery life kind of sucks hope they fix it soon with the next security update

Yeah, this is what I'm afraid of: do the FDR and it won't change anything. And mine is now significantly worse, won't even make it to 6pm on moderate usage (used to make it to the next day).

Did fdr as well, didn't help. They broke something in the patch. My battery life has been horrible. I find restarting fixes it briefly so I have to do it every night to prevent massive drain overnight.

Add me to the list.
I did an FDR after the Oreo update, battery life was as before and excellent. After the patch / security update it's terrible. Just did an experiment and found that it used about 60% overnight whereas before it never used over 5%.
Hopefully, someone and HTC figure this out. ( What's the best way to contact them? )

I'm happy to report that in my case, the FDR did help with battery life, specifically with standby. It's now back to where it was before the update, at least so far. Fingers crossed that it remains that way.

I'm also having significant battery drain on standby after the most recent update. Has anyone put in a ticket with HTC and received a reply?

Just wanted to jump back in this thread and note that my U11's battery life has also reverted back to terrible, even after the factory reset. I'm just not sure what they broke, but standby is just horrid. I'm really hoping they fix it next time around -- the phone went from having great battery life to terrible battery life in one fell swoop.

I know this sounds weird, but hear me out. I got into a car accident, nothing major but I had a concussion and some lacerations. I never(seriously, not one time, ever) let my phone battery completely discharge because I feel like it's bad for the battery. That night though, I was in the ER until 3 a.m. and obviously I didn't have much of a choice. The battery completely discharged and now, my two day battery life is back. Standby time has been great again as well. 1 day 15 hours on battery with 3 hours screen on time is pretty fantastic in my opinion. So maybe, just let your battery died so it can be reborn......
HahahahahahahahahahaAaaaA
Anyways, hope it helps.

It is the reboot that temporarily fixes the issue but it will come back, usually after you make a phone call.

I tried reboots. Cache Wipes. Those never worked. And I waited three days to post this in order to be sure it wasn't a fluke. I made about 13 phone calls between insurance adjusters, family members, friends and dealerships over the past few days. A lot of them I was on the phone for over 20 minutes each. Nothing has ever got my battery life back to this. I have no choice but to disregard your argument, considering how good my standby time has been over these last three days.

It's worth a shot.

Ive found the big problem for me seems to come from when Im actually using BlinkFeed itself and pulling in my own Content.. yet outside of BF is fine...

This problem is being reported on every phone with oreo and believe to be an Android problem in general. I have read of temporary fixes but don't remember what they are as I haven't had any issues yet and hopefully I don't. I know they have discussed it in the forums over on XDA in the HTC mega thread under HTC U11.

It totally is.

Wanted to ask how long was your phone off for and sorry to hear you where in an accident. Bc I did try just letting it die. And left or of for like 30 minutes. But that did not work and is not getting what your got now?

Honestly, I was on drugs so, I don't know. I know I slept until noon the next day. I can't remember if I powered my phone on or if I just put it on the charger and it was off the whole time it charged. Sorry, wish I could be more help.
