Decided to jump into Android Wear with Huawei Watch

For the past few months, I've been wearing a Samsung Gear S2. At first, I picked up the standard version, but have since moved to the Classic. I love it, but keep thinking there's more out there from wearables. Tizen is pretty fantastic as an OS, but at times, the watch faces/apps are limited. I mostly use my watch for notification triage and the Gear S2 does a good job. After much internal debate, I figured it was time to give Android Wear another try (I had previously tested the Moto 360 when it first came out). Amazon has a good selection of Very Good models in their Warehouse, so was able to pick one up for under $300. Given their return policy, I can always send it back if I'm disappointed.

I opted for the stainless steel mesh band, but I also picked up this highly reviewed $13 leather band in light brown.

A few months back, I wasn't even wearing a watch, now it's a staple. The Gear S2 was the perfect size, but now that I'm a watch wearer, it's starting to feel small.

Looking forward to checking out Android Wear, the multitude of watch faces and this beast of a watch.

Hope you continue to love it like I do! It's a great watch and I also went with the mesh band.

I like the look of the mesh. I figured that it's easy enough to find a good looking an inexpensive leather band. The link bracelet, while nice, is a bit too formal (and probably heavy) for my taste. I've got a black link bracelet for my Gear S2, that I almost never wear. I don't think I've ever worn the black leather band that shipped with it. I did pick up a $15 brown leather nato strap that looks great and wears nice.

Super excited to jump into the watch faces. I've seen some wicked combinations of nato straps and faces. Thanks to Amazon Prime, it's scheduled for Sunday. Originally ordered through Newegg, but their deal is now on back-order. You could have gotten both the leather strap and free mesh band for $300.

Any must have apps?

Great call on jumping to Wear for more watch face options.

Once you're comfortable with using wear and with some of the watchfaces on the play store, I'd recommend installing the "WatchMaker" app and learning how to use the facerepo and/or watchawear web sites, and, especially, the google+ WatchMaker group, to acces a entire new world of watch faces. you won't look back ;-)

Funny you say that. I spent most of my Saturday evening downloading faces to WatchMaker Premium and I didn't even have a watch yet. I've got no less than 40 watch faces now. One better than the next. Android Wear is a bit of an adjustment from the Gear S2. There are definitely things I miss from wearing that watch.

Immediate things I love about my Huawei Watch:
  1. The mesh band is incredibly well built and I could see myself wearing it more than I had anticipated.
  2. I thought the thickness of the watch would bother me, but it doesn't at all.
  3. I love the always on display and the ability in some watch faces to have a bright/dim, bright/bright option.
  4. Some notifications are more useful because they contain content (Slack)
  5. It's faster for me to delete email from the watch than on Gear S2
  6. I've been able to pick up 22mm third-party bands and easily hack them to fit the 18mm lugs.

Is that your video? That was the video I used as a reference point for making my modifications. Great work. I swapped back to my mesh, but will definitely post a photo of my strap. I also have a new orange/black silicone diver band coming tomorrow. It should work well with the Bell & Ross watch faces.

Yes it's my video, my first attempt at making a product review. Glad you liked it! Good to see yours too
