When I open up my contacts, it is showing me All of my contacts, including Facebook contacts. I see where I can choose only my Gmail contacts but after I close the contacts app and open it back up, it's right back to All contacts again. I can't find where I can choose a Default setting. Am I missing something?

open up your contacts, hit the menu button select what contacts you wish to display , you might want to restart the s4 after :)

Thanks famouzstarz#AC. That's exactly what I tried before but I didn't reboot. I just tried rebooting and a battery pull but its still defaulting back to all contacts. :'(

is there any way not to pull contacts from FB? im not a zucker so i dont have FB intergration on my device

Yes. When you install the facebook app you can sync your facebook contacts to your device. There were some other "unofficial" ways to export them to emails accounts. Not sure if they still work but I know Yahoo use to allow it. I once did it and merged them with my gmail contacts.

Sounds similar to my situation but I was able to resolve it. That, is find the cause and hope there's a fix.
1) Are you on a Sprint S4 or a different carrier? (For polling purposes)
2) Did you install a 3rd party launcher? If so, which one?

I found out that with Go Launcher set as my default, my Contacts app wouldn't remember it's Contacts to Display settings. I don't even see how the two interact but I was able to prove it time and time again. My wife won't let me near her phone to try the experiment though LoL. If you use a 3rd party launcher, switch back to TouchWiz and see if it behaves normally.

so basically if the OP uninstalls FB it should clear the FB contacts and when they reinstall they should chose the option not to sync contacts?

Actually it's as simple as opening the Facebook app and changing the sync in Settings. But that doesn't solve the Contacts to Display option not sticking.

Yes. I'm not sure why their settings are sticking when using your suggestion. Mine sticks even after reboot.

my guess would be its syncing fb with your gmail contacts to the "g cloud"? if your remove your google account it should remove all your google contacts from the device then you should be able just to readd the google account.

didnt know FB was so pesky guess thats why ive stayed away from it.

1) Verizon
2) Next Launcher - I had thought that maybe the Launcher my be part of the issue.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions and help!

No I don't think it's that. When you sync your facebook account it should have nothing to do with them selecting the contact list that they want to see. My facebook contacts were synced when I initially set up the phone but then I turn it off after syncing is done. I do this just to add the facebook info and pictures to my existing gmail contacts that the app can "match". But if I change the settings to view facebook contacts, I have none because I turned off the syncing. The syncing on allows you to add data to "matches". It doesn't create new contacts on your phone. Just allows you to view facebook contacts who aren't in your other address books but when you turn off syncing those contacts are no longer there.

Having said that, I still don't know why the OPs settings are sticking to only show their gmail contacts because mine does and always has when that was the setting. Lastly, I've found google contacts given me much more trouble with duplication and inaccurate merging that facebook has never done LOL.

Glad you figured it out. I wouldn't be surprised if the bug exists in both Go and Next Launcher. I'll send an email to support to see if they can get it figured out.
