Default Gmail Batch Delete Checkboxes gone on my Galaxy SIII

I have had my S3 for a while now and the Gmail app always showed next to each email in the inbox a checkbox so I could check them off and then batch delete unwanted emails.

Now all of a sudden the checkboxes are gone and the only way to delete is by swiping each email (very annoying and error prone).

I checked under settings for Batch Operations but there is no such thing. Did google change something? What am I missing here?

If you long press on a email it will become highlighted. You can then select multiple messages and then delete or move to another folder. Hope this helps!

I called Samsung, and after 1/2 hour on the phone, they were completely unhelpful. But, here's what you have to do. Go to SETTINGS, then APPLICATION MANAGER, the click on gmail, then you should see a button to uninstall updates. Click on that, and it will revert back to an earlier version of gmail that has the checkboxes. VOIL? .

scl1smi, you are AWESOME! Thank you for fixing my problem -- I was ready to throw this thing in the ocean...

FYI, same steps can disable some stock apps, and the check box for notifications turns those off. Example...you don't want Gmail telling you about new mail, uncheck that and it won't bother you.
