I use the default Messaging app and under Settings - Spam Filter there is a setting to block unknown senders. What exactly are "unknown senders?" Is that refering to people NOT in your contacts list or for "unknown callers?"

Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S5

I believe for unknown callers.

Edited:Now that I reread what you said i guess it could be either or.

That would be folks not in your contacts list, show 'Restricted' as their name on Caller ID, have a blank name, etc...

I can't use that feature as we get a lot of doctor offices that use Text messaging to send appointment reminders.

When I have an order shipped from Amazon I get a text. I shouldn't be getting a text from Amazon if they aren't in my contacts.

Greg, isn't that just exactly what I just previously posted?

That if the blocking feature is not enabled, you will be getting texts from all of those I just mentioned?

I should have been more clear. When I had the "Block Unknown numbers" enabled I would still get texts from Amazon when a package ships. The number the text comes from is not a standard phone number... it's short. That is why I posted this question.
