Is there any way to change the default video calling app to Duo? So that when you open your phone, the video calling button will actually use Duo?

I believed it yard AT&T default video calling, but obviously that is because this is an AT&T device.

I just tried with att. Video called failed to two iphones on att and defaulted back to voice. Looks like I have to actually use Duo for now as I have been doing. Ill try this to a verizon android when I get chance.

I'm on T-Mobile, and the native video call app only applies on other androids on t-mobile?... a friend of mines has a samsung with T-Mobile, and we're able to video call, but not sure about cross-carrier video calling.

We can't make video calls to iPhone unless we use an app that both phone has it like FB Messenger.

whatever you do, do not try to talk your iphone friends into using Duo or other video calling app. the only solution, from their point of view, is for you to buy an iPhone so you can just facetime. That is you should spend hundreds of dollars rather than them downloading a free app. I know because I tried with several friends and family and everyone of them said I should just get an iphone to FaceTime, duo or other apps are just too much trouble

all Android phoone manufactures just need to get on board with Duo. it's in theirs' and ours' best interest.

With duo the person you are calling must be using duo also correct?

Yes. And that is the problem for iphone users. It is just too difficult for them to download and use any cross platform app, when there is a single platform app like FaceTime. You should just march in lock step like they do.

What do you mean your iPhone doesn't have facetime? What kind of iPhone do you have? "

It's a Samsung galaxy note 8.

"you need to have a iPhone then"

Same thing with imessage. Half my friends wondering why I never get the group texts. Because it's not a text it's an imessage. A text is an SMS/MMS, which is a universal cross platform messaging format. Not a proprietary messaging app.

There needs to be a standard universal video calling platform like this.

Iphone users won't install duo, but android users would install FaceTime without any problem.

...now I'm forced to go an look into this Duo thing.
This feels like I've been seeing subliminal messages. LOL :)

If I cpuild say itr as a default in the phone app, I'd use it in a heartbeat. But I already know I won't use it if I have to open another app to do so. I know it sounds ridiculous, but you just kind of forget about it when it isn't just right there.

Agreed, there needs to not only be an Android standard for video calling but also messaging (outside of SMS) as well. Google achieved this with Google Maps--which even most Apple users have on their phones. It's possible, it just seems that Google is spread in so many directions with so many projects that it's like getting a distracted teenager to do their homework.

My daughters took that approach, 3 of the 5 have iphones. I said cool, guess your mother and I will just talk to you then. They came around quickly.

My daughter and I downloaded the latest version (20) and tried to use it for the first time. It only rings once than hangs up. I saw other complaining about this in the Google Duo group.
