Denied Early Upgrade

I just called the CS number to ask about an early upgrade. I'm scheduled for the end of February, but was hoping to move that up to, um, tomorrow. Haha.

I spoke to the rep, told her that the reason I was asking because my current phone has been acting funny/freezing up lately and the battery wasn't keeping a charge all that well.

She told me that if I know the phone I wanted, they could put in the order for the subsidized price and a manager could push the order through early for me (she did confirm that's not guaranteed, and it wouldn't be immediate, but most likely within a week).

I then brought up that Amazon has the phone on sale for $160 and I was hoping to get that price instead of the $200 VZ is charging. She said they can't match that price, and if I wanted to get that price, I'd have to wait until my actual upgrade date. She said there's no way they can just move up the upgrade date since the 'NE2' program was dropped/revised. I asked about speaking to a manager, and she said that even the managers can't just change the date. They can only push through an order.

All was not lost though, as she told me that if I talk to a corporate store manager, they may actually be able to help me with the early upgrade and get the phone for the discounted price. Think I'll be heading to a store tomorrow.

Probably should have mentioned going to another provider for a new contract, but slipped my mind. Regardless, anyone have an recent success in moving an upgrade date? Was it in-store or via talking to CS?
 
I have 2 lines that will come up for an upgrade in October and November this year. My son had a phone that was having problems (and he had replaced it before} anyway they went ahead and sent him a dinc 2 from the fascinate that he now has and as he was working on the order he mentioned my upgrade dates and said he could go ahead and upgrade the 2 lines mentioned above now!!! I was kind of surprised. We have gotten early upgrades before but not THAT early. Anyway he is going to call me back middle of Feb as I told him we were not quit ready to do it now. I always wait until after 11pm est time and call tech support for anything I need help with. I have had the best reps and experiences with that dept. They are always very helpful and they can help you with billing or most anything that customer service can do. I use the number 8662214096,choose english and I think I use option 3 for smartphones and then it will say cust service is closed at 11 and then it will start with other options and I think it is option 3 again which says "if you are having trouble making or receiving calls press option 3 and that will take you into after hours tech support. I really think it depends on the rep as well.If you get a rep that wont help then wait a little bit and call back and get another one and I bet they will help you. They get commission on there sales. I know if I can get an upgrade and mine aren't ready until oct and nov then you should be able to. Also another rep told me they can do an early upgrade before your date but you have to pay and xtra 20.00 to do it. Anyway hope that helps and good luck. Another thing- ask what promotions they have right now. I didnt know they even gave promotions and I have been with them 10 years until I read on one of the forums that someone had gotten one. So I called and asked and they gave me 10.00 per line- I had to go to the 2000 min plan from 2100 but it was 10.00 cheaper so I am saving 60.00 a mth for a year on my 5 lines. I was excited. They may not offer that one still but see what they have at this time. The promo I read about was 20.00 off per line but they no longer had that one. Wish I had gotten that one. You may have to do the promo thing during the day because I think they have to let you talk to a (special dept) to get the promo.I would ask tech support why you are talking with them and just see if they can help with that too.
 
I went to the store on Dec 21 to get my wife a new phone and had them check if I could upgrade and the answer was yes.my upgrade wasn't due till march so hopefully you can do the same.

I think using tech support for non-tech issues is usually a welcomed relief, as they don't have to try to help customers who barely know how to turn their phone do some more intensive work, thus making them more apt to assist you in a small/easy way. I will try that next time.

But, for now, I think I'm sitting tight. Debating a little bit more due to battery life concerns between the Rezound and the RAZR MAXX.
 
At this point I'd wait for the new crop of rumored htc quad core's, in march or april
 
I'm sure we'll see one, maybe two, by year's end, but don't think it'll be in March/April. I'd say more likely in the September/October time period. Don't care to wait THAT long.
