hey, I picked up a fascinate yesterday (my first android phone). And when in the desk dock it behaves oddly or maybe I just don't know how to change a setting some place.

The issue is that when in the dock all the different home screens and application screens are in portrait mode and the phone itself is in the dock, laying on it's side aka landscape mode.

Any ideas how to change this?

Thanks.

I just click on the "Desk Dock" application to get to the desk dock, which is how it was designed to be used. If you just want the main home screen to be in landscape orientation, can't you rotate real quick before you slide it in the dock?

Maybe I'm not understanding your problem right..

I was going to start a thread about the desk dock myself. On the Droid X, the Desk Dock application that Brandon suggested (you've been really helpful in the forums BTW), would automatically start up when docked. It doesn't do that with the Fascinate for some reason. I'm looking into whether there's a plug-in for the Locale app that can remedy this.

My complaint with the dock is how flimsy the phone is when it is mounted to the dock. Because the phone sticks out to the right side, the left side wobbles easily where the jack and plug meet, which concerns me. I realize they did that to expose the speaker, but still. Also, did anyone have a sticker on the back that says the 3.5mm jack will not work until Froyo is out? I didn't see that same sticker on the Epics dock.

I'm not at work, so I can't check the sticker, but I completely agree with you Cory on how flimsy it is. You can almost pull the phone straight off, instead of sliding it out, and break off the connector.

I was wondering about the "Desk Dock" auto starting.. It seemed like that would make a lot of sense. Glad it does work on other phones, so it must be a configuration issue somewhere. For now, I just threw an icon on one of the LP docks and deal with it that way.

Lookie here. I'm definitely giving this a whirl. Locale is highly spoken off because of all the situation based things it can do. I think I will finally give this app a try.

my desk dock app automagically starts up when I put the phone in the dock. I have not changed any settings on it.

If I recall from last night, mine did switch to Desk Dock mode automatically when I plugged it in, but I probably had the app running in teh background from earlier.

Mine also has the sticker covering the 3.5 mm jack.

well, it appears that it just isn't the dock mode that won't go landscape mode for me. The applications or home screens won't go landscape no matter how I rotate the phone. They will only stay portrait. The apps themselves will toggle between landscape/portrait mode (browser, gmail, messaging, etc.) I've got to be missing some setting. Ideas?

I was actually just going though all of my phone settings and I have noticed the same thing. Even though the phone is held sideways, the home screen and menu screens are in Portrait mode and won't go into landscape. Now if i open an application or the settings screen it goes to landscape, but as soon as i close it it goes back to portrait. Nothing i could find fixed this. Does anyone have any suggestions (non root).

Thanks

For those of you who have the dock app automatically opening, are you using the TouchWiz launcher vs Launcher Pro?

I have the desk dock too. The first time I plugged it in, it didn't come up automatically. Afterwards, it did when I took it out & plugged it back in. It may have still been running.

My biggest complaint about the dock app (and also the car dock app) is that you can't change the icons! The daily briefing app is atrocious because you can't make any useful changes to what it presents, such as getting different providers, or RSS feeds, for example. The car dock only launches the Bing & VZW map/nav tools.

I can't change anything with the dock app. It prompted me to pick a city for the weather on the first use. I tried to scroll through the list and inadvertently picked the wrong city. There appears to be no way to change that.
