desk dock

I can't change anything with the dock app. It prompted me to pick a city for the weather on the first use. I tried to scroll through the list and inadvertently picked the wrong city. There appears to be no way to change that.

Ouch you're right.

Back when I bought the original Droid I bought an app called "Bedside" because it had more configuration options than the built in one.

Bedside (Night Clock) - Android app on AppBrain

ohmygosh I'm fried...this has nothing to do with the "day time" desktop cradle issues.

Hmm...wonder if the Bedside developer would consider doing a similar app, "Daytime"

ditto, mine did it out of the box with no change to default settings... as soon as the USB is connected it changes.

my desk dock app automagically starts up when I put the phone in the dock. I have not changed any settings on it.

Be careful putting phone is dock if you not you can press your ring volume keys where they are on the bottom of the phone the way you have to put the phone in the dock

+1 on jachchaos. When I put it in the dock, the dock app automatically starts up. When I remove it, it closes the dock app and goes to my home screen.

Also, my dock DOES have the red sticker on the back that says the 3.5 mm audio out port will be fully functional upon the release of Android 2.2 for Galaxy S phones... FYI.

What were they thinking when they designed the phone to sit in the desk dock with the volume controls at the bottom? Can't change the volume without taking the phone out of the dock. Hmmnn...

The "long way"?

I'm guessing the poster meant through the application you are actually listening to...so opening the application and then using its volume controls to increase or decrease volume.

However it would be far nicer to be able to do a quick hard button press.

Anyone else also seriously disappointed in the lack of customization in the desktop dock program? You can change it to night mode but can't even tell it to turn off notifications for messages, or to allow calls to come through, or anything.

This dock SUCKS!

FYI-- I'm using the Captivate on the AT&T network.

After many months of waiting on the back order, the desk top cradle arrived today, and...

it's simply awful.

While docked, you're stuck with five icons (Alarm, Daily Briefing, Gallery, Music and Voice Search). They are not customizable and I rarely use any of them. Samsung thought it sufficient to only allow customization with the clock (you can turn it off or get an analog or digital version--- WOW!) You can also change the city and the Celsius/Fahrenheit in Accuweather. My experience has been that Accuweather is wildly inaccurate. Totally useless...

As if that wasn't bad enough, Samsung, in their infinite wisdom, designed the dock so the volume controls and the headphone jack port are blocked. Finally, you can't access contacts or make calls while docked. That's right, you can't use your phone to make a call. To place a call, you have to first exit the landscape mode by pressing the home button and you're then in your home screen. But of course, at this point, everything is sideways if the phone is still docked. Pretty ridiculous if you ask me. I contemplated returning the dock for a refund, but the return policy included in the packaging states that full refunds will only be given for unopened items. Samsung states they will make partial refunds (at their sole discretion) based on the condition of the dock, accompanying literature and the packaging.

Learn from my mistake-- This dock is a huge waste of money. I've had it with Samsung. The delays and poor quality of the dock, the delays with FROYO and overall poor customer service means I'll be looking to purchase my next phone from another manufacturer.

I actually like the dock. I don't need to make any calls while it is docked - I just want a place for it to charge. And I'm much happier sliding my phone into the dock at night in the dark as opposed to fumbling with the micro-USB plug...the receptacle on this phone sucks.

The Desk app is limited, but I'm hoping it gets better or a 3rd party app hits the market. These things have taken forever to come out.

When docked, I'm wondering why the Desk app shows "Please wait...loading...." every couple minutes or so.

I'm using LauncherPro and it seems to recognize/switch and stay on the Desk app screen just fine. If the phone is locked, the screen turns off - but if I put in the dock unlocked, it seems to work and stay on.

I wish the background could be customized without changing the home screen background...it ends up looking squished.

To be honest, part of the reason the dock sucks is because Samsung put the usb port on the top of the phone. If they hadn't we could have vertical docks that wouldn't interfere with the volume buttons or head phone jack. Since the usb is on the top, if they made a vertical dock you'd have to turn the phone upside down to plug it in.

To change the volume during music playback touch the speaker icon next to the 5.1 icon and a slide volume control is revealed.
