Device not found

Ha! My wife would divorce me if I made us miss a dinner (or anything for that matter) because I was trying to help someone with a phone issue. She always says "there's other geeks on there that can help them, why do you have to?"

Hold on to that one!

Lol thanks shark, she really is a saint you guys have no idea how many times we miss dinners or movie times because i dont want to leave people hanging and she is so patient

That's 2 of you then that are Saints for all the reading thru all of the posts i have read here you are th MAN.

uninstall the drivers, reboot your computer, reinstall drivers, pull out the battery of your phone connect it, put your phone into download mode and let the composite drivers install...then unplug pop your battery back in , turn on the phone, throw it in debugging mode. and connect and see if it configures
Wow, thought I had it there for a minute. Finally got the computer to recognize the phone, started rooting, phone rebooted, bam device not recognized again. Since that time I've deleted, reinstalled drivers to no avail. This is so frustrating. I guess I'll have to wait for the OTA of Froyo, unless someone can get rid of this EA28 build. This seems to be the culprit

Sounds like it an issue with the 1 click method and your setup. I'd just recommend making a nandroid backup and flashing one of X's all in one packages that already has root in it.

Thanks for your help but that was a no go also. I still get the dreaded no device found. All the research I've found suggests that this problem appears after the EA28 update, but doesn't affect all phones. I've used X's instructions earlier in the thread and the first time I tried it, it worked, but not since then. After looking at my post I now wonder if it's not a conflict with something I've downloaded. Anyway, I just saw where the Froyo update will be released tomorrow so I'll do the OTA and hope the problem goes away after that. If it does I'll work on all the bloatware afterwards. Again, thanks for your help.

Resolved my issue with this. Turns out I have a faulty charging cable. It works well enough to charge my phone but broken enough that it wasn't providing enough power for the pc to recognize the device.

That's my next step. Verizon or Best Buy doesn't have one, so I have one on order. If this doesn't work, then it's definitely a phone issue.

try to find someone with a cable to make sure... i fortunately work with people that have the AT&T captivate. I used their cable and it worked

I had the ea28 build and went through the same problem. After 7 tries I finally got it to work. Try cussing a lot ...it seemed to do the trick for me.

Btw. X is the man here ...if it wasn't for his help I would have accidentally ran my fascinate over with my truck, collected it's life insurance and bought a droid lol.

My phone has started this now. I'm suspecting the cable. When I plug it into the wall to charge it, if I pull the phone end of the cable toward the screen, it goes into USB mode. If I pull it the other way, it just charges. Likewise when I plug it into the computer, it seems to like pressure in one particular direction, then all is good. I chased this for an hour the other night before my sleep-deprived brain just clicked.

Now, another question for the real guru's... I've got several USB 2.0 to micro-USB cables laying around. Why won't any of them work? Why does the Fascinate ONLY like the cable it came with? Or do I just have a bunch of bad cables?

i hope a new cable does the trick for you....i've tried 3 diffrent ones and its always the same..... USB Device Not Recognized im pretty sure its not the cable for me

Have you tried rebooting the phone while it is connected to the computer with the usb cable and the usb debugging on?

Awesome, that worked for me!...Device Manager is still showing weird stuff like Samsung Android USB Modem and 56k Data Fax, but I was finally able to ODIN ED01 so oh well!

Congrats! Glad it worked for you! Yeah I wouldn't worry too much about what the task manager says.. The way your computer see's your phone can show up in funny ways, the point is that it connected and it worked :)

i find it hard to believe that all these cables are going bad.... im wondering how many I will have to go threw to find one that works.. ( 3 and Counting...)
at least it gives me hope everytime it works for someone else... :)
