Device Protection vs SquareTrade

I've considered square trade in the past but what google is offering looks pretty good except the part where you can only use it twice.

Both have a fee when you have a claim.

Any thoughts?

Depends on how bad you are with your phone. My wife breaks about 2 phones a year.

I always give extra warranties some thought, but wind up passing on them. My phone drops have always been minor to date (scratches only, never anything broken) and I've never had water damage either.

I'm gambling with the thought that I can keep a phone functional long enough that if it did break, I'd be able to pick up the same model on the used market for a fraction of what I paid for the first device, or will decide it is worth it to me to spring for a better, newer model.

So I'd rather save the price of a warranty.

It sounds like if you're only going to break it once or twice, definitely go Google's plan. If you're like the above poster's wife, squaretrade might be a better bet.

I'd go with Google's plan. I haven't read the best reviews about SquareTrade's customer service. And plan or not, I'd recommend getting a ballistic glass screen protector. Those have saved my phone from needing replaced on multiple occasions

I have had Square Trade warranties on TV's and they pay quickly with no hassle. I've had them on phones but have not had to use any. Pretty good company. But policy looks expensive.

I am planning to buy with best buy CC unlocked one. They do offer Geek squad protection . I didnt read the fine print to see what will be the cost to replace it.

I only see the Verizon units on Best Buy's website right now. I am curious to see if/when they will carry the unlocked version.

Does Square Trade cover you if the phone is lost or stolen? I don't think Google's plan does.

Thanks guys that helps. I've only broke one of my phones ever and it was because i accidentally left it in my pocket around the pool and got it wet. but i had just gotten the phone and no protection plan so i had to pay out of pocket heavily to get another phone. i've had a protection plan since but so far haven't had to use it.

I hear there will be a lifeproof case for the Pixel i'm almost tempted to get that and no protection plan but i prefer phones with no case so i'm still thinking.....


On a side note my wife got the nexus 5 through t-mobile and had the protection plan through T-mobile which was also by Assurant and she dropped that phone 4 times over a 2 year time (with and without cases) and it cost $150 each time to replace it. but i guess that's better than out right buying the phone 4 times..... geez
