Devs like this is why I will be going back to HTC

If you have the type of money to go dump every few weeks/months on the next best device then have at it friend. The average consumer doesn't go that route because its just senseless. Really if the cell phone industry wants to impress me then lets put out some technology in battery so it can keep up with this newer technology. Sure the newer processors control battery use better but its still not enough.

AMEN BROTHER! When is the cell phone industry going to cater to the average consumer instead of the gamer/fanboy/I'm-validated-by-my-phone crowd. For most consumers, what matters most is being able to make your phone call and get your data when you need it, quickly and reliably. That doesn't require energy chomping gigantic super high-res screens, dual or quad core processors, gimmicky bloatware, etc. Nor does it require churning out googles of new phones every month. Just make a solid, reliable phone, that can fit in your pocket, that can consistently hold onto a good 3G data connection, and that has a quantum improvement in battery life. Is that too much to ask for?

I have to admit before I owned a Epic, I swore up and down that I had enough of samsung phones after owning a moment for about 6 months. I had so menu issues with that phone it would make a grown man cry, and it did. Sprint let me exchange phones and I chose a htc hero. Very good product, I enjoyed that phone very much. I debated for many weeks before I upgraded. Going back and forth from the EVO to the EPIC. I got an Epic. I tell you i've never been happier with my choice. My buddy has a evo and he Tells me all the time how much he loves the screen and speed of the Epic. Samsung won my heart back.

first off, cool story bro. Unlike the tbolt, a custom kernel isnt a necessity for the epic. The dev communiy for the epic is strong and doesnt waste their time. Simple as that.

Honestly, I have a bigger problem with the Epic community. A majority tend to whine over stupid things and always think the grass is greener on the other side. good luck with your tbolt.

Tbolt is still unplugged after 10 hours and in the green, Had to plug in the Epic about 3 hours ago, yes the Epic needs kernels for Gingerbread (or have you not read about the crappy battery life?). Plus, the Epic has a few kernels for 2.1 and 2.2 (actually felt like there were plenty more when 2.1 was still the thing, but many devs have left for that equally plagued community). I'm not a whiner. I really tried to give this device a shot, but you can only handle so much disappointment (I guess you more than me). I had a problem with the bounty people first put on the Epic... Like "if you pay us, we'll develop" Or "Donate to get our release" To me, that defeats the whole purpose, and its not seen with the HTC crowd.

How dare someone try to get money in exchange for providing a service. What a bunch of low-life dirtbags.

My battery life is just fine. I guess if custom kernels gave me a boner I would go to the phone with the most custom kernels too.

Im glad you feel the need to tell the world why you do the things you do. We are all on the edge of our seats to read the next thread you start about a decision you make. Can you please start a new thread with a link to your new thead?

And yet, you keep replying. I dunno, I guess I have a problem with it since I don't directly charge people for my service. My advice in my profession is always free for everyone. I get paid a salary from a company that will gladly take your money for goods. Basically, if you had a question, you could call or come in person and I would answer it. No charge to you. Just like I don't charge to root/odin people's phones remotely. I think that's bull. You should dev because you want to do it, not because you think it would be a source of income (you can ask any of the devs, they probably aren't banking on the work they produce). I have no problems with donations. I donated to PTFMedic (Rob). He does great work and is very selfless and passionate.

I feel like kernels are an under appreciated part of the phone. Lots of great work can be done with them like undervolting for better battery life, overclocking (the only need I've seen is for synthetically high benchmarks), task skedulers (like BFS) to increase performance. I feel like thats why the Gingerbread leak runs like garbage compared to Froyo and Eclair.

Someone needs to tell you how stupid this whole thread is. When you post a thought in a forum, people reply with their thoughts. Thats how this whole thing works. Helping people out is a great thing to do n when its free, even better. Good for you. We all thank you.

Am I off topic when I ask isn't this thread supposed to be about devs and HTC? I guess going off the OP topic I'm not sure why the devs for Epic haven't been able to write their own kernels without source. Maybe there is something different for the Epic we don't know about. I mean heck, Dameon87 and noobln are two of the best the Epic has and then we do also have some other very talented kernel people like tanimn of ACS, mkasick and others and I would imagine if it was that simple or doable they would of pulled it off already. Reasons I say this is take ACS for instance, they also produce ROMs/themes/kernels and etc for the EVO (HTC product) so many of the same people or the same team of people share ideas and stuff back and forth. Okay they write their own kernels for HTC and others well if it was that easy for the Epic wouldn't you think these same people writing them for HTC products would be able to crack the mighty Epic code and do it for us? Must be something were not aware of that makes the Epic or Sammy's code harder to break down and create/write from scratch.

Just some of my own thoughts on this subject. Really I'm very happy with my Epic 4g and the devs that have produced the ROMs we run. I don't complain, sure I wish a few things could be better but what has been tackled to this point is amazing. When you consider the mess that was left by Samsung with EB13/EC05 that people like k0nane, Mammon, mkasick and others have overcome and patched for us why wouldn't I be happy? These are the minds that should be in the chairs writing the code for Samsung, these are the guys that been self taught and probably know as much or more than the people hired and paid by Samsung and others. I sat and talked with k0nane for a good hour a few weeks back and asked him about his background, until the day the Epic 4g came out he knew just as much as the average joe. Look at what hes done and the knowledge he taught himself. The rest of ACS, same thing.. Ive also talked with many of the other big names, DRockstar, chris41g, Nullghost, Mystery Emotionz, Dreamsforgotten all names we know and respect for their talents.. So to sell any of these guys short is completely wrong... I think with the knowledge among all these people and others I didn't mention if creating a kernel from scratch or other things was doable then it would of been done already. [/End of my rant]

I know that ACS only does work on official release builds. I don't know about any other dev. ACS has a source with Samsung and could release a new leak anyday. It just makes sense to let Samsung give it their best shot and take it from there.
