The update doesn't require rooting, but it does require a factory wipe of the phone. If you're interested you can read up on it
[Exclusive Download] Full RUU Build 4.03.605.2 For The HTC Rezound
On a similar note, if you are rooted, there's a version of the Global RUU with everything but the updated firmware stripped out so no full wipe is necessary.
I think you are referring to the .1 OTA update, avoid this if at all possible, it is very buggy and many users have reported significant battery drain issues.
Steps I tried:
•Renamed to PH98IMG.zip
•Placed on ext_sd
•Powered down device
•Rebooted into the bootloader by holding VOL DOWN + Power
Screen:
HBOOT
FASTBOOT
trys to load, but as I said says checking, then No image several times.
Ahhh... OK, I see what you mean now. I shy away from recommending anything non-stock or at least non-official except basic rooting in most of the forums, for the average user it is not usually an option they are willing to go with.I was referring to this one:
[KERNEL] Rezound Global OTA (4.03.605) Sense 4 Kernel (VIDEO FIXED) - xda-developers
The firmware only is labeled "Firmware" underneath the kernel in the first post. This is the method I used. I've had no problems with it and battery life has not been affected.
By "stock" RUU, are you referring to the 3.14.605.12 version that was pushed OTA? My question would be if this is what you have now, what are you hoping to accomplish, or are on a custom or other "non-stock" ROM currently?I am considering flashing the stock RUU. Aside or wiping my phone, what other risks exist by doing this? Will I be off the OTA track?

Well, since I am not going to give into the DNA for now, I think I am going to attempt to flash the global RUU this Thanksgiving weekend. I already have the file on my SD card (happily I still have a phone WITH an SD card) and I should be ready to go. I have bookmarked Mr. Smith's instructions. I had all those failed attempts with ICS, but I am thinking the file was not in the right place. I believe I currently have it named and in the correct spot.
Good luck SkaterGirl - let us know how it goes and whar noticeable improvements/detractors there are.
I followed your attempts at ICS, and decided to flash shortly after - just days before the ota; just my luck
