Difference in lock screen

Today I have noticed that my boyfriend's s8+ lock screen has exactly same icons as AOD display unless he taps it, while my s8 has old fashioned (had exactly same notification on s6 and s7) white stripe with notification content (on my boyfriend's phone this white stripe notification appears after he taps little round icon which shows first as he gets notification). Checked our settings and everything related to notifications and lock screen seems to be set the same (show content). Anyone has idea why is that, I would love to have this AOD icons too on my lock screen...

I'd say the obvious answer is to take your boyfriend's phone and give him yours. Failing that :), not sure what you mean by the white stripe and notifications being the same on the lock screen. I have different screens assigned for AOD and lock so notification are different on each. Are you using different themes because the phone you showed obviously has a custom screen assigned. Sorry, just not sure what the difference is you're seeing.

Haha that's quick fix, not sure if I'm after bigger screen though can you see pictures I uploaded along with my question? First one, with Iron Man, has 3 icons in circle, that's how notification looks on my boyfriend's phone, while second photo with lips shows "white stripe" with notification content and that's how my phone handles notifications. I'm just trying to find settings to achieve the same look as on first picture... I have changed theme but even before, with original one my look screen looked the same, so wouldn't blame theme on that. Hope my explanation makes more sense now?
I don't know if AOD settings would apply to lock screen as well, and lock screen itself doesn't seem to have many options to configure it's look

Okay, gotcha now! My phone acts just like the two photos you show, my AOD is the first, lock screen is the same as the second (yours). I an unaware of how he did that as, like you say, the two screens are controlled by different sets of settings. Other than having a theme that mimicked the two screens I'm at a loss. Sorry, maybe someone else will chime in with a fix for you as the S8 forum is quite active.

You don't have your Aod on on your phone...open your phone and when your on the home page pull the notification down and look for always on display click it on

I do have AOD on both phones, pictures of both has been taken after home screen "button" pressed, I know 1st one looks very like AOD screen but I assure you it's screen lock after you wake you phone up and if you swipe on it it's ready for unlock

Seems like I had an answer right next to me and it was super simple! I forced him to dig through settings and he managed to find solution! If anyone is interested to get rid of ugly "white stipe" with notification content at least at first glance- head on to settings-notification(you have to click on it and that's what I didn't expect and failed to explore) and there you have an option "notification icons only".
BTW I hate 3rd party lock screens- it's often possible to unlock phone without password and it consumes loads of battery, thanks for Samsung finally avails something new, "white stripe" was my nightmare lol

Glad you got it figured out. Been faster to just take his phone :)

There is also a sticky at the top of the forum for Tips and Tricks. You might consider creating a new post there with your screen shots and fix.

Thanks for your help anyways, guys :) I might post there because it was something I was waiting for a while (screen lock cleaner look) so happy to share it with others. and didn't even realised it was just there in options until I picked my boyfriends phone!

Thanks for this tip. I like how you can tap the icon and still see the notification content without unlocking the phone.

I went to Settings-Notification and I see a list of apps there and I see the advanced menu item, but I see no option for Notifications Icons Only. Am I missing something obvious here?
