Disable Laser Auto Focus on V20?

I was told that the V20 has both laser autofocus and phase detection. To me, it seems like laser autofocus is slower at focusing, because the laser beam has to hit a target then bounce back. Anyway to disable it? Possibly in a secret menu somewhere?

Also, why is the focus much faster on manual than auto mode?
