Disable notifications about local news

[Android Central Question]

I use the Google News functionality a lot (the part where you swipe all the way to the right and get aggregated news). I have set the language for this to English and the region is my current region by default.
Since a few weeks, I regularly receive notifications about news from local German-speaking newspapers. When I tap on the notifications, I'm being taken to Google News, where that German news is shown with other English news in the list.
When swiping to Google News I never see anything but English news. Why do I suddenly receive separate notifications for German news and how can I turn those off? I'm not interested in them.

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone? When you get the notification, long-press it or swipe it a little to the side and look for an option to turn those kinds of notifications off.
