Disable screen on with SMS

Using the stock messaging app. I've set the priority to 4 "make sound" only, but my screen still turns on when I get a new message. Is there a way to disable this "feature" or do I need to go to a different app. I'll go back to Textra if I have to but I like the stock app and want to continue using if I can.

If anyone knows how to disable heads up notifications as well system wide I'd love to know that too

Do Not Disturb Setting

As in I'd need to keep DND on? That's not an option.

Open the message app and go to the Settings in it. Select the importance lower. Good luck!

Did that. Set it to 4 so it didn't have "pop up". It still pops up and also turns my screen on.

After you changed the settings, clear the cache partition and reboot.

Clear cache in recovery or for that app?

Reboot to the recovery menu and clear the phones cache partition.
