Disable Sprint LS670ZVC Update Notification?

Ok, so i downloaded Rootexplorer and it force closes on me everytime so i guess that apps out of the question.

I then downloaded ESmanager and that tells me "Sorry operation failed" when i try to rename the otscert.zip to .bak....

Tryed Filemanager as well and recieve the same message.

I checked in my Superuser and there arent any of the above apps listed in there.Should they be?

To Monkeytrix,

Yes, any of these apps would need su permissions to change system protected files and/or folders from a read/only state to rewrite. Otherwise, you can only look at the files and shake an angry fist when the rename attempt fails.

Open su and check your settings if root explorer is not listed. Make sure superuser is allowing apps to request su permissions. I think that should solve your su issues. Maybe? :)

S.O.S. - Optimus S rooted, oc'd, ThundeRom (Thanks A.C. and all the hardworking devs)

Thanks samsonsite.

I actually opted to install Rootexplorer via torrent download and skipped the market all together and version 2.10.1 installed like a breeze.

Used R/W and renamed file to .bak and it succeeded without a hitch!!!

Now where might i go about clearing the update cache? Is this something i can do with cachemate or is it somewhere else?
Still getting the Update pop-up every minute or so....

Thanks for the heads up chardog!!!

So I took your suggestion and went ahead and rebooted my phone, and I initially got an update request on the first boot up but none since and its been two hours now.So ill keep my fingers crossed for now!

Id have to disagree.Ive noticed a substantial boost in performance after installing root and running Minfreemanager and CPU overclocking as well as many other root required apps that boost performance.

Not to mention that you do not need a rom to uninstall numerous preloaded Sprint apps.

Again you are doing more than just merely rooting to see the performance increases. Simply rooting your phone alone will do nothing for performance. Neither will uninstalling perloaded sprint apps, which won't even give you extra space as those are on a different partition. You can also only overclock your cpu if you have a custom kernel that allows overclocking and that would take a custom recovery to flash the custom kernel. Again simply rooting your phone and doing nothing else will do nothing for performance.

My nags came back. I use root to control my setup. Some apps work only with root, and that's all the reason you need for it.

I have found a way to get the Auto Download notification to stop popping up on my phone every 5 mins. Next time it pops up just push the button that say “More Info” and when that screen comes up just pull your battery put it back in and restart your phone.

Yes, it only comes back after reboot, but a few times only. I think it shows up after I visit the market, but not sure.

So the update notification has returned after about 30 hours.Unfortunate but ohh well.

mine came back briefly then went away. I think if you went to the market, it triggers the nag, but not sure. Mine has not come back since the last time I posted, so hopefully things work out well.

I am rooted and using the Lego Rom setup, and have tried renaming otacerts.zip, along with deleting the LS670ZVC update from my cache. I have done this 3-4 times now, and I still get the update. The last two times, I have deleted otacerts.zip, and the LS670ZVC update, then gone into recovery, cleared the cache and the dalvik cache. I just did it again, and once i rebooted out of recovery, there the nag is in my notification bar, and neither of the files are to be found on my device. I've been fighting this for about 4 days now.

Is there any free apps other than "root explorer"?

I dont plan to do much to my phone, and dont feel like paying for an app I will use once.

You can use adb, mount the system partition, pull the file in question, modify and push back.

You can also grab one of the build props here and flash in custom recovery.

Today, a jump onto the Android Market/Background Data ON auto-pushed down the VC update, without any notice besides Unusual 3G arrow activity. Background Data OFF again.

I restarted the phone in the middle of this download process. When the download finished, it gave me 3 options: Install Now, Install Later, Info. I clicked on info, then shutdown the phone. Upon reboot, V9 software is still listed in settings. My phone is stock/unrooted.

What is the best way to yank this out of the cache, preferably for no cost? Adb? Can a dummy file be switched in?

I've had success stopping those annoying nag messages (similar to what many on this thead have tried but maybe a little more complete). I started with a rooted phone running a stock ROM.

First, rename the system/etc/security/otacerts.zip file. I used a free copy of "Super Manager" and gave it root rights. It should then prompt you when you open the /system directory if you want to mount for R/W. Say yes. If you don't get prompted to R/W access when you navigate to /system then you need to go to the top and figure out how to grant this root. I had to try twice before it took.

Second, go to the LEGO thread in this forum's rooting subgroup and find the current build.prop file from zefie mess#421 from an upgraded phone, stock version. Since there are several changes (like dates, build name, version, etc.) it is easier and better to copy this file to your SD card, then move it to the /System directory using "Super Manager". Probably good to make a copy of the original file in case you want to actually do the upgrade one day.

Then restart your phone.

If the nag screen is there, open it and dismiss it. It should go away for good.

Then under settings:about phone you can ask it to check for system updates and it will say your phone is updated.

I also updated the PRL, with no bad effects, since I heard several people say that was part of there upgrade. But that was probably not required.

Did this on my nook color a few weeks back (it's a rooted android) to block update nag also.

Did this and it has been gone for 2 days now. I think its the easiest fix. If it happens to come back a quick battery pull is no big deal for a multi day fix. Ill just bide my time until there is a updated rom with the new drivers.

I have DELETED otacerts.zip and installed the new build.prop file. I am no longer getting the notifications and the update section now says that my phone is up to date. But, I am concerned as I have read that deleting this file can harm your bandwith and battery life because the system is contantly trying to call the update. Is this the truth?

what is involved in installing the build.prop? just replacing that file with the one found in the lego rom? There were a bunch of folders and files from that zip I downloaded.

Yes, I just copied and pasted the build.prop file from the LEGO stuff. Used SuperManager. After pasting, it told me that there wasn't enough space, but it replaced it all the same. Took a while for the update section of the phone to show that the phone was up to date, but it eventually worked. Does anyone know about the battery drain issue? Other sights are reporting a bandwith and battery drain after renaming the OTACERTS.ZIP file. I deleted mine.
