Disabling two-step unlock process?

Most recent version on Verizon note 5.

Right now when I turn the screen on, it shows a lock icon on the button. I have to swipe that lock icon, and only then do I get the option to unlock using my fingerprint or a pass code. I don't get it.

I want to take my phone out, put my finger on the scanner, and unlock. The extra step of swiping the lock is of no benefit to me. How do I turn this off and get my phone to behave how I want?

Do you have the gear s2 watch? My Note 5 only did that when I had my watch paired. Very annoying.

Disable smart lock. That's what's causing the swipe to be required when using fingerprint

I have to do the 2 step process if my phone is charging. But if it isn't then it just wants my fingerprint.

If it is making you swipe that lock before asking for your fingerprint, that means the phone is not locked. Swipe anywhere on the screen to open the home screen. Swiping the lock locks the phone, which then wants a fingerprint to unlock. For me , this happens when I have it connected to a trusted bluetooth device, which keeps the phone from fully locking.

Duh. I had no idea. Thanks!
